During my career, I have paced and issued citations to many many people.

The officer had a certified speedometer and yes, he opted not to use the electronics and got you the old fashioned way.

Just pay the fine, you apparantly were not paying as much attention as you thought.

By the way, traveling at 90 mph you are traveling at 135 feet per sec. At that rate, you had better be paying attention of what is ahead of you and not behind you.

Good luck

Cruising 90 is very dangerous. Touching 90 or so for a couple seconds then going back to near limit is no big deal, but sitting at 90 , not good.

Very dangerous and very expensive. Ask me how I know.

My only Vette ticket was at 90, lone ranger cruising at midnight, very dumb move. I was popped buy a very nice LEO going the opposite direction with radar.

........ paying a lawyer for something like this! I'd rather pay the ticket then pay a lawyer for a traffic citation. The OP needs to suck up his pride in my opinion. Atleast he wasn't in GA and got $200 tacked on for the Super Speeder law.

Thanks for yalls feedback and sarcasm

I was more curious if anyone knew how pacing works and how can it hold up without evidence such as video.

I just looked up the distance it was only 5 miles not 10...my bad! It did seem like it was that long though.

If I was truly endangering other drivers I should have been pulled over immediately. What good would it do for the officer just stayed back? In Texas, anything over 25mph is automatically a maxed fine.

I believe the officer saw me but could not catch up. Maybe he was on the service road or on the on-ramp. That is why he did not use his radar cause by the time he caught up I was at the posted speed limit.

I have lived in my area for over 20 years and have had my fair share of tickets. Never have I ever had or heard a friend receiving a speeding ticket based off pacing. Especially, in the metroplex.

Thanks for the clarification. I'd still lawyer up. Might get you out of the points.

My question is, if the officer paced me going such a speed why did he allow me to drive for 10 more miles? Did he just feel like going fast too? I find it hard to believe the an office would allow such a speed for so long, especially since he said he was behind me the whole time. It doesn't make since.
I'm sure you would want to stop a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed as soon as possible. Not allow him to continue and possible cause an accident.
All valid concerns, but ten miles goes by pretty quickly at 90+ mph . . .he was probably running the car for stolen and also pulling your history as well as wants/warrants. With the number of vehicles equipped with detectors today, pacing makes good sense for enforcement - - not unusual in the least.

In most places- that much over would generate a felony speed citation, wreckless and who knows what else. I'd suggest seeing if you can plea it down a bit and then pay the man.

I'll go back and read your posts, but most telling was that you never said "I never drove that fast . . "

You were going pretty fast and got caught . . pony up.

With no priors, it shouldn't affect your insurance too much.

I'm not saying I wasn't wrong but two wrongs don't make a right. If the officer paced me and can prove it fine. But if he falsified his remarks then it should be known.

I have my reasons to be skeptic.

Thats another point. At the speed he said I was going I could have been tossed in jail, my car impounded, and several big charges filed against me. He came to my car with his hand on his gun he screamed at me to turn off the car and step out. Two other cops showed up and I thought I was in big truoble. Then he told me everything he could do and then just gave me a speeding ticket and let me go.

Now some would say I got lucky, but all I think about is...if the situation was that bad why didn't he take me to jail? All of that police work for a ticket. Something doesnt sound right, like the evidence is not there...

And that is why I posted today to get others thoughts.

The fine is nothing compared to what can happen to insurance rates for the next 3+ years. A lawyer is well worth the money.

Oh I know LOL I'm an insurance agent

My lawyer is a good family friend and works next door. I always hire a lawyer because i just don't have the time to go to court. that and it is just the smarter move!

If you were speeding you were wrong. It's that simple. It's just blowing smoke trying to blame the cop for something here. So you only like tickets when the police play by your rules? You know if you were wrong. You have the answer as to whether the fine is legit. Don't go through life covering up your mistakes with an attorney!

Blame has nothing to do with it for me. If tickets did not effect insurance or my license I would be happy to pay up. I watch like a Hawk for Leo when I drive because they love to sneak up on sports cars.

So you think people should not have consequences for doing wrong? If you elect to break the law then be a man and take the punishment. Sure it's not good for your license or insurance if you do it too many times but isn't that the point? I have a ton more respect for people that take their punishment than those that knowingly do wrong and send other people to clean up their mess.

What are you looking for, a fair world? How many cops pull out that badge when they are speeding off duty? How many cops pull out that badge when they are off duty and their mouth gets them in trouble at the bar? If the ticket has 100% right a lawyer could not beat it correct?
