That has nothing to do with the autolock setting. The door will always open when you try to open it if the fob is in your pocket.

Think of it just like any old car. The test of a locked car is whether it is locked for a guy who does not have the key, not the guy who does.

Mental note: Never start a thread in the Corvette Forum on a Monday morning with the market down 500 pts. The natives get a bit cranky!

Some folks don't like the car to autolock when they park it. Just like the OP may decide to do. Those folks would use the fob button to lock the car only when they want it to lock. Some forum folks don't want the car locked when they park it in their garage.

Since the car automatically unlocks when you pull on the door handle (if you have a fob close enough to the door), you don't have to use the fob UNLOCK button. However, if you were lounging in your lawn chair with the car 20-30 feet away in the driveway and your spouse or SO walked up to the car and wanted to get something out of it, you could just press the unlock button without the fob being any closer to the car.

Different strokes for different folks.

Yep, I don't like the car locked in the garage. If I want to do something to it, I have to have the FOB with me. Guess it will just take getting use to.

Totally what I have done for 3 years with no issues whatsoever.

I have left FOB is car twice and it gave the 3 honks.

Unless OP's car has a issue I dont get the OP's thread at all.

It shouldn't take any getting used to. My car acts just exactly the same as my '74 Trans Am. I lock it when I want to and I leave it unlocked when I want to. The only difference is that if it is locked, I do not need to use the key to open it. Otherwise I do everything exactly the same. Does this make sense?

I agree. The fools who quickly posted incorrectly and without proper advice need to grow up.

My corvette autolocks when I have the FOB in my pocket and walk away from the car. If I leave the FOB in the car and walk away, it does NOT lock. Some members have to grow up and learn what they are talking about before posting incorrect responses.

What's going on is, you're leaving the FOB in the car and it's going to lock you out every time. Don't do that!
WRONG!

HalfWit, you are rude.

I leave my FOB in the car at the detailers all the time and it does NOT lock. RTFM.

As frequently happens on a public forum. And if the FOB never leaves the car, it won't autolock.

Mine is set to auto-lock and I keep the FOB in the car while at home in the garage - it has never locked on me and is not supposed to if the FOB is in the car. I keep mine in the cup holder. Granted, as said before there are blind spots (trunk area) in the car that introduce the risk of locking the FOB in the car. But contrary to what some have said or given the impression it's not by design.
Thank you for a sane, correct post.

Not really as I don't know for sure but I don't think a key fob would unlock your door on a 74 as I don't think they had them. I guess my only way to keep the car unlocked is to leave the fob in the car. I don't like doing that but I don't see any other way. You can't open the door without the fob.

No, this is my point. The door can be left unlocked just like it could in 1974. I can walk up to either car and if the door is unlocked, I can just open the door. No fob with the C6 and no key with the Trans Am. If this can't be done with your C6, then there are two possibilities. Either the car is programmed to autolock, which you can simply un-program...or the car is not working correctly and needs to be fixed. Page 3-72 in your owners manual describes the programming choices for "passive door locking" which can be turned off.

"Passive Door Locking: This option allows you to
select whether the doors automatically lock when the
ignition is turned off, the keyless access transmitter has
been removed from the interior of the vehicle, and
the doors have been closed for eight seconds. If
a keyless access transmitter is left inside of the vehicle,
the doors will not lock. You may temporarily disable
the passive door locking feature by pressing a
door unlock switch for three seconds while a door is
open. Passive door locking will then remain disabled
until a door lock switch is pressed or until the power
mode transitions from the off power mode.
Press the OPTION button until PASSIVE DOOR
LOCKING appears on the display, then press the
RESET button to scroll through the following modes:
• OFF (default)
• SILENT
• HORN
If you choose OFF, this option will turn off.
If you choose SILENT, the doors will automatically lock
eight seconds after you turn the ignition off, remove
the keyless access transmitter from the interior of the
vehicle, and close both doors.
If you choose HORN, the doors will automatically lock
and the horn will chirp eight seconds after you turn
the ignition off, remove the keyless access transmitter
from the interior of the vehicle, and close both doors.
If you are parking in a quiet area and do not want
the horn to sound when the doors lock, press the lock
button on the keyless access transmitter immediately
after removing it from the interior and closing the doors.
This will lock the doors and cancel the passive locking
for this ignition cycle.
When the mode you want is selected, press the
OPTION button to set your choice and advance to the
next personal option.
3-72"

On a unrelated note my Vette FOB went for a quick dip in the Pacific yesterday.

I think my rubber cover saved it as amazingly it still works!
