Well, I see all my little girly friends are out in force today. Did I hurt your feelings by pointing out the attributes and limitations of the models the OP is considering? By your standards, freedom of speech is only allowed if you mindlessly support the models you girls drive. Grow up!

Just my .02 but for a non-track, highly driven touring car I would get a base coupe or convertible w/ f55 whatever other options you want (probably 3lt) and call it a day.
You pay a lot of extra money for GS/Z06/ZR1's performance gains. Unless you race/track the car those differences go mostly wasted unless you have an image to uphold. The 430hp of the base car is plenty to enjoy on public roads.
In the end it is all your own balance of cost vs. intended use. Chances are you didn't get to a point of a clean retirement without having some judgement of marginal utility.
I just posted this in another thread:
"Knowing what I know now, if I had to, or wanted to get another Vette, I'd still get a C6 Coupe, or maybe a Vert.
Don't get me wrong, I'd love to have a Z06.
And Really like the GS and can't beat the way they look and perform for what they are.
Just that the C6 suits my needs and wants best of the 3 models.
IMO anyone getting a Vette for the first time should take into consideration all 3 models before making a decision.
Just my 2 cents and food for thought "
I agree with Dif. I love the looks of a Z06, but don't need all the power and prefer to have the $ in my pocket. Likewise, I love the looks of a GS and if I was going to buy now I would probably consider it. However, again, you can come away with a WONDERFUL car by just buying the base coupe or vert (I lean towards the convertibles). I have a base C6 convertible (2007) that is everything I need. Get lots of head turns and it has way more power than I need.
I'm in the market for a new 2012. Leaning towards a base vert, 1LT, NPP, F55 and chrome wheels. May add HUD afterwards, but that car suits me fine. Don't need heated anything or NAV. Then again, I may go with a base GS vert set up the same way.
Maybe i missed it, but I didn't read where you say what kind of transmission you wanted.
Remember, you can not get an automatic transmission in the Z06 or the ZR1.
In my case, I was going to purchase a Z06, but my wife can't drive a stick (and I don't want to teach her) ... so we bought a GS instead.
Still very happy with the car.
As far as the ride quality, I think they all ride very well, but of course a base coupe would have the softest of the suspensions and ride the best on long highway trips ... but IMO, all the Corvette models ride pretty well for a sports car. I have no complaints.
Well, I have 1 complaint ... The Corvette is not the easiest car to get in and out of by any means, and the older you get, it certainly don't get any easier ... FACT
If you had "bad knees", getting out would NOT be fun at all !

TRUE DAT! As a matter of fact, it is the one complaint I have as well and it is the only thing that has made me think of selling it every once in awhile. Then, I snap out of it and realize I can take my time getting in and out and I deal with it.
Girls? Now now folks, there is a Corvette out there for everyone. Name calling isn't necessary.
No damn it!
You must not understand how this works: let me explain... the Z06 guys try to convince the GS guys that their car is worth the premium price, the GS guys tell the Z06 guys that they can't justify the $20K premium, the base guys chime in from time to time, the ZR1 guys are usually silent... this goes on and on and on and on and on till a new post pops up that starts with the phrase "which model ...." at which point we move to that thread and do the same thing there!

78 years old, huh? Maybe 7 or 8.
You ONLY pointed out that a Z06 is a better performer than a GS. Brilliant Jack!
Freedom of speach has nothing to do with ignorance. Sticks and Stones, Jack.

I have owned every generation of Corvette except the C4. Back in 1984, my dealer got a new black C4 in and I went down to check it out. Loved the looks, the aluminum suspension, the huge tires, etc. My C3 was getting long in the tooth and the new, improved, C4 was just the answer I was looking for...until I got in the car and then couldn't get out. The salesman had to grab me by the arm and PULL me out of the car. My next Corvette was a new C5 in the fall of 1997. Entry/exit was a breeze. Now have the C6 Z06 and no problems. Now, getting in and out of my 56 with that HUGE 17" steering wheel planted firmly into my gut, is a different matter.

Oh, I think I understand just like the kids in the playground! Instead of bashing other Corvette owners, I think I'll dis the Viper guys. Sorry, but when it comes to Vettes,I think I like em all!
If I was the OP and not going to track the car, the 'narrow' body with the F55 would be fine. Tires would last longer and it's a classic design. Just add some 'StingRay' emblems on the side.

Image has nothing to do with owning a Z Vette. One only has to have the mechanical/mental ability to be able to appreciate the attributes of these cars. Its a very satisfing feeling to set down in one of these cars and than realize how blessed you are to have the opportunity to own one.

Most of us like them all and most get along fine here ..there are just a select few here that pick on each other and like to pee in each others kool-aid on a daily basis.
The only thing I take issue with is when people judge something they have no first hand experience with, or have never driven, yet comment on ride quality for example

Most people respect others, and their opinions.
I think Jack is just bored with himself. He wants everybody to be miserable, like him.
