Which Model????????

Clif

So I would ask, if you are willing to pay the premium price and operating costs for a street use Z06... can you really say image has nothing to do with it?
The OP of the thread started by asking about which model was was best for trips and pleasure drives, expressing concerns about tire wear and noise. My mental ability tells me the track prowess of a Z06 is probably not his top priority. In the end I suppose it is my mental capacity that allows me to keep those original points in mind.

You pay a lot of extra money for GS/Z06/ZR1's performance gains. Unless you race/track the car those differences go mostly wasted unless you have an image to uphold. The 430hp of the base car is plenty to enjoy on public roads. In the end it is all your own balance of cost vs. intended use. Chances are you didn't get to a point of a clean retirement without having some judgement of marginal utility.
Lastly, those that are saying the Z06 is not good for long road trips..I'd be curious as to how many have actually taken a long road trip (or any extended ride) in a Z06 to back up their comments.
The Best of Corvette for Corvette Enthusiasts
We drove his Z06 up and I drove his Z06 back.
I've been in a number of Z06's on the street and track but this was the first semi long trip I've taken in one. From his house to Dallas and back it's a 10 hour round trip.
I own a GS so I think I can offer a good comparison.
They both ride the same, although the road noise in the Z06 is a bit louder, something I attribute to the Z06's lack of sound deadening insulation from the factory. Passing trucks and slower cars only required a quick down shift and a slight stab to the go pedal, although not much different than what I'd do in my GS.
Aside from that, the Z06 was a joy to drive, and there were no other discernable differences that I could notice going down the road even at semi illegal speeds.
If I didn't want an auto trans and a removable roof the Z06 would not have any negatives that would discourage me from taking a long trip in it.
Just because a car has an auto trans it doesn't disqualify it as a sports car. I know more than a few very fast drivers that drive auto cars on the track that are faster than their manual counterparts.
Where the argument differs in the Z06 is first the price. You have to pay more, to get more. The Z06 is not just an additional cost to the wallet, but an entirely *different* Corvette. The aluminum frame, exotic lightweight materials, fixed roof, track suspension, manual only transmission, less padding & sound dampening, wider wheels/tires, beefier brakes, wider body and use of lighter materials.. all make that Corvette experience much more "raw" than the standard body coupe. There is also no Cadillac luxury version built off the Z06 platform.
While both vehicles can be bought simply for looks (which is honestly what most owners purchase them for). Theres still no doubt one leans greatly to being a comfortable, but still sporty passenger vehicle.. while the other leans to being a raw track beast. The engineers who built the vehicles knew that purpose and designed each to be such. I'm not saying a Z06 cant be used for a daily driver, but I am saying the Z06 was built with a totally different purpose than the standard body coupe. They are two very different vehicles that look very much alike.
The GS.. really is the happy medium between both cars. Both in design & in price.

You clearly stated that the GS/Z06/ZR1 are a waste unless you track the car.
You have your opinion and your entitled to it of course, but many of us will dispute your statement that we *wasted* our money because we did not buy a base C6.
Are you using all 430HP of your base vette every single time you drive it on the street? I would guess the answer is NO.. so then I would come back and say you wasted your money then too

maybe someone only tracks their GS or Z twice a year..or maybe only 1 time.. they enjoy the car in different ways and spirited driving on the street. Not a waste.

I'm just struggling with this notion that there is this HUGE difference in the way the Z06 drives, and many people are posting that the car is uncomfortable on long trips, or even daily driving,, when many have never even driven one
Yes you can feel a difference on bumpy roads... but my experience is the Z drives much like the base c6 if not almost the same if you were just driving it around town, or on an easy cruise.

You are taking my comments outside of the frame of the original post discussion. That comment was relative to the OP who clearly stated he intended to use the car for vacation trips and weekend drives and was concerned about tire life. Hard to justify a Z06 for that.
I'm not talking to you anymore. You're kind of a dick.

if you can't handle a debate or someone not agreeing with you then maybe you shouldn't post.
you resort to name calling

You will never win an argument with these guys because they know more about the car you drive than you do
Just let it go there will be another thread like this next week
