Just checking back, my friend's daily driver is a brand new GT-R, he had the windshield protective film installed, lives here in the Northwest where we tend to get a little rain and reports it worked fine. I would suspect it would be impossible to scrape ice off the windows on the frosty mornings but other than that it has held up well this winter (so far). The GTR windshields are equally expensive to replace too.
