question about 2005 vette
The Best of Corvette for Corvette Enthusiasts

Yes, there are plenty of satisfied 2005 C6 owners. But here are some reasons the 05 gets a bad rap:
-- 05 with manual transmission is the ONLY year C6 with a steering column lock. Make sure yours works smoothly -- you don't want an expensive repair or, worse, to be stranded!

-- 05 dead-battery-syndrome (DBS) was a real problem... fixed by computer reflash. Well-known issue, so the 05 you're looking at was probably fixed by now.
-- Just a heads-up so-you-don't-kill-the-battery: 2005 with manual transmission MUST be parked in reverse gear, or the battery will drain. This is not DBS. See pg 2-31 in the owners manual: http://www.gmpartshouse.com/download...05corvette.pdf
-- Some folks delight in hammering/abusing 400 hp, damaging the rear end -- which was beefed-up for 06. Other year-to-year changes: http://forums.corvetteforum.com/1563694469-post5.html
Also from the above thread:
Check on this forum for VIN's with early builds having loose crank pully.
Check all position on the horn button to make sure no dead spots.
Check the underside to make sure the rockers are not cracked and the
"supposed" skid bars do not have broken welds.
On cold start make several sharp turns (figure 8's even better)and see if posi clutch plates are sticking.
Listen for column lock cyl. to move freely.
Push the rear trunk black button and see if it releases the trunk.
Have Chev. dealer pull up Warr. repair record.
None of which cannot be fixed, just need to find 'em before you have to pay to fix 'em...
Bottom Line: It's a buyer's market. And it's winter. So, get a great deal on your 05 or walk away.

Available in January.
Going to use the Silverado and a new Sonic as the daily driver and use the ZR1 more often than we have.
Don't let anyone scare you off of the 2005 model year.

When I saw the title of your post I thought, well get ready to hear all the "Non" 05 owners to tell you to buy a different year.
There is nothing wrong with the 05. As in all model years there are pro's and con's. Just make sure you continue to do your home work like you are doing here and get the best you can for your money.
Many Corvettes can often have excessive wear on the inside of the tires. You will not notice just looking because the tires are so wide. Turn the wheel to the stop locks and then get out a look at them.
In my case, I purchased my 2005 6SP Convertible with 20,100 on the odo, has all options, Power Top, Magnetic Ride Control, NAV, HUD, etc and paid $30K. I could have had an 06 with more miles or even a Base 07 Coupe for the same money or less money, but miles and like new condition, convertible, HUD and 6Sp were important to me.
Good luck in finding the C6 just right for you!

Had my 05 over 4 1/2 years before I sold it. Great car with no problems at all. Don't be scared of buying one despite the year. Great car for the money.
