We get packrats in Arizona....they're desert rodents....not NYC sewer rats. My parents had an RV burn because of damage caused by packrats. Remedies range from mothballs under the hood, traps to leaving the hood open and placing a bright light in the engine bay (rodents prefer nesting in dark, cave like environments so they'll avoid the brightly lit, open engine bay). If they've been nesting under the hood clean out the mess and inspect hoses and wires carefully. Good luck!
We rescue cats and dogs and I have not seen a mouse or snake in years, but 18 cats have a way of preventing that. Keeping my vette on the road as a DD also keeps them out of the engine compartment.
A lesson learned the hard way...Always inspect a car for mice nests after storing it.
I lost my C4 in a fire. Local fire department says it was a mouse nest on the catalytic converter. I have no idea how they could determine that as the car got so hot that it even melted the wheels but that's what they told me.
OK...after reading all this I had to go open my hood...I see no critters and left the hood open. This really is not a big deal as it's pretty darn dark in garage, but I need to get the tender on the car this week anyway
Again, thanks for the great advice. Here is a review of the suggestions:
- Mouse Magic
- Moth ***** (not sure how to find the ***** on a moth though)
- Zapper
- Cat
- Peppermint oil
- Leave hood open
- Bright lights
- Irish Spring soap
- Glue traps
- Snap traps
- Sonic repeller
- Poison
- Pepper spray
- Dryer sheets
- Box traps
take fabric softeners and tie them, around engine area where they wont cause fire/heat damage away from exhaust, take the box and pull one up like tissue and place under vehicle, the smell is ok for you and rodents dont like very well. cheap but effective, add this to your arsenal.
