Isn't that brake horsepower at the crank and not rwhp? Take around 15% off for rwhp.

Get them while you can. It won't be long before the law makers of the land decree that high horsepower cars are dangerous and bad for the environment. They could also slap a horsepower tax on the cars.

As technology and electronic wizardry evolves in today's cars more horsepower becomes more usable. Just because our Vettes come with xxx amount of horsepower doesn't mean the computers are letting you use them. Sure, we can shut off all the nannies and really get ourselves into trouble but most of us are smart enough not to tempt fate. My Z06 is making 677 rwhp and I believe I am right at the edge of usable power. And even at that sometimes I wish I had a little bit more. So far I have been able to avoid the bug to ramp it up even further. But as I have said in other posts about horsepower wars, a cars horsepower number is a big selling point because whether we like it or not its really a case of "mine is bigger than yours". That's why these horsepower wars have been going on for a century.

I guess it depends on what you do with your car and/or what makes you happy. I know what I do with my car, what amount of power makes me happy and what would make me happier.

It's ironic....on one hand government crams everything green down our throats and car makers appease their master building cars like the Volt (which not many want). On the other hand manufacturers largely advertise power and speed. The truth is horse power and 'speed' still sell cars. A lot of people want high horse power performance cars.

I'm not a drag racer but what's the old adage....What does a stock Supra and a 1000 horse power Supra have in common? They both do a 1/4 mile in 14 seconds.

If I lived in a more rural area where I had room to play, I'd feel differently, but as it is, I live in a stop light forest, and a lower powered car that I can wring out a bit between lights is frankly more entertaining than a 500+ hp car that I can't get over 2-3k rpms without drawing the attention of the law.
well said.

Manufacturers don't measure HP at the wheels, they leave that up to the motorheads...

it becomes too much when the car no longer becomes reliable and spends most of the time in the shop
