I recently bought a 2008. Can anyone tell me if this configuration is stock? The console is gray, bought the one little insert between the console lid and the cup holders is carbon fiber. If this isn't "normal" is there a way to find out what the whole console was when new, gray or carbon fiber?
I believe the 08 was the first year with the CF look.
08 and up center console bezel is hydrocarbon pattern. When I initially read this I thought someone stuck you with the old grey consoles and removed the newer style one to sell it,
I don't think I described it well enough - and using the word "bought" instead of "but" didn't help any. Sorry.
Most of the center console is gray. However, there is a small insert piece in front of the console lid that is carbon fiber. I'm not sure why it's not solid like I've seen in some pictures. I believe it is to cover up where the selective ride switch would have been.
Rick T has posted excellent pictures showing the difference. 08 has the almost black carbon fiber look without the seperate "tombstone" shaped piece like the 07 had. If your console has the tombstone then the car either is NOT an 08 or the console was changed to the older style.
Well, everything I have says 2008 and they sold it to me as a 2008. So it sounds to me like the center console was replaced with a 2007 console. This is supposed to be a "Certified Pre-Owned" vehicle so I am going to try to get them to replace it with the correct console. I have found so many issues with this car that it proves to me this vehicle should never have held the "Certified" title.

I would get the forum Chevy Customer Service guy involved if you have issues as your is Certified Pre-Owned
I did contact Chevy's forum rep. He called me last week and left a message. I've called him several times and just get voice mail. He has never returned my calls. I have been dealing with a different service rep. However, he told me one time that there was no "Bumper-to-Bumper" warranty. I told him it states on the GM web site that there is. He wanted a link to that site because he didn't believe me.
At this point, I believe this car should never have been "certified" in the first place and I paid extra for nothing.
I can't post pictures. The engine does say LS3, but I don't trust anything on this vehicle anymore.
You need to post some pictures and give a little more detail. Upload your pics to photo bucket and post a link here. I'm curious where you bought the car, mileage etc.
Ok, this is a link to the "tombstone" insert. I didn't take a picture of the whole console because I thought the issue was the tombstone. What other pictures would be helpful?
I bought the car at Lakeside Chevrolet in Rockwall, TX. It had 38,000 miles on it. I chose this one over a couple of others because I mistakenly thought CPO meant something. What other information would you like?
Def not an 08 console. The previous owner probably sold the CF console and swapped the old console from the buyer. They're quite pricey so I'm assuming that was his motive. And Certified Pre Owned doesn't mean sh*t to me. Some of the worst cars I've seen have been stamped with the CPO sticker. The PO probably messed around with the car and put it back to stock and took some parts off and sold it before selling or trading it to a dealer. Good Luck and I'm sure the car is an 08 just has been tampered with.
Bummer to hear about the switcharoo. My recommendation is to meet up with someone locally (lots of C6 owners in TX) who is familiar with the car, have em look it over, and point out anything they see that is not right. This might be the only piece, or there could be a lot more. I'm hoping for the former.
I know this must be frustrating, but it is fixable. I hope this doesn't create disdain for the Corvette line as they really are great cars. The dealer on the other hand shouldn't have certified it without taking a closer look at the car. I hope they make things right.
Without me looking it up, one of the digits in the vin is the model year. Once you know which digit a quick look will confirm if the car is an 08 or not (which it probably is). That is an older console though.
