Bore, stroke, intake design....etc However the heads are super wide in comparison. The idiot at Jeep/Dodge who decided its a "good idea" to make it so you have to take the whole belt system off in order to change the EGR valve needs a smacking.
does the "ticking" increase (faster pace) with rpm's?
Yes with the windows up I can hear it. It's just a painful noise to hear at idle after the oil has warmed up. So far it's sounding like it's to be expected with LS engines.
Quote: "Every time my wife rides with me she complains that it sounds like "chains rattling" under the hood.
She swears I got ripped off on the used Corsa exhaust I bought to swap out the Stingers that were on there.
I tried to explain that with the headers and intake, it's normal.
She's not buying it."
Do what I do when my wife has a comment about the noises, run it up to the red line in first and second. After that she usually doesn't say another word the rest of the ride.
exactly!! always quiet's mine right down as well... he he he..
I'm not so sure it isn't the sound of the exhaust and headers. I know every car I have ever heard with headers "ticks" (it is the very loud bang that is silenced by the exhaust).
My 2010 A6 with 22K miles on it is stock and pretty much silent. I run Amsoil 5W-30 and drive the car daily.

That's what I do too. BTW, both my 2008 and this 2011 LS3 will occasionally "tick" enough for me to notice it sometimes.

My 05 ticked, my 11 ticks, I have driven my friends ZO6 and it ticks. Recently had a ZO7 for a couple of days and it ticked. It seems normal for a LS engine.
It sounds normal... check the rubber boot near the steering shaft for the heck of it...
The boot on this guys was loose and caused ticking
Here`s what he said:
Hi For last six months i have been battling a ticking sound like lifters
making noise. I went nuts but couldnt find the source.I was disgusted enough to get rid of the car because it only had 11k miles on it and already having engine problems.Turns out it was a loose rubber boot that isolates the steering shaft from engine compartment. You cant believe how much this little boot makes a difference. The mechanic said this is not so unusual on c6 vettes. So if u have engine noise issue do yourself a favor and check this first

If you want to hear valve train noise, listen to an old L72 427 or L78 396 engine with the valves set at .024" - .028". Add headers, and now you have a real sewing machine. Going from that to these LS engines, EVERYTHING is different, including the sounds. Injectors have their own noises too. I'm back to square one in every way. As long as the noise isn't getting worse, I wouldn't get too excited.
