Smart fuse LEDs rarely burn out; I've been using the same one for 6 years. If yours does burn out, the car will throw a P0803 during the second consecutive trip (aka run cycle). The code will reset the first run cycle after you correct the problem. (DTC history persists for 40 run cycles before clearing.)
Rather than blowing a smart fuse, I bought one on eBay for about $20. It has worked well and I didn't get junk in my eyes like I did with adding the transmission mounted unit to our CTS-V. Much easier.
I installed the CAGS eliminator in the first month I owned the car. It takes 1 minute once you get the car lifted and has been trouble free ever since. Best $20 I've spent.
