Eye Candy!!

"It's really just a base coat metallic, then color, and topped with clear.
Yet for some reason, it's always considered an exotic, expensive, color."
What I'm saying is, the Candy Apple Red color is just another color. No different than Crystal Red Metallic, or Night Race Blue, or Blade Silver.
All of those colors, and hundreds of others, look beautiful from the factory.
They are very common, not considered exotic, and do not cost thousands extra to order.
Yet, when it comes to Candy Apple Red, expect to pay a hefty premium as though it was some extra labor intensive process to produce.
If anyone knows why it's so expensive, please tell me, I'd like to learn.

What's money anyway to a man of your stature?

Hameister: we well remember the '62 Impala. Had a friend with a '64 Impala SS w/the 327 and the two speed auto (think they called it a "torqueflight?") trans. We thought it was the most beautiful automobile we had ever seen. But nearly $3K. There was not that much money in the entire world...
We trudge on.

"Torqueflite" was Mopar.

I knew something about TorqueFlight didn't sound right, but didn't know why. Thanks for the reminder!
TorqueFlight was a good transmission, the PowerGlide sucked rocks.

I had a buddy that painted his beloved VW candy apple red. He paid over 10k to have it done. I was incredible to look at. The color was so deep, it looked like you could reach into the paint. A cheap candy apple paint job looks like your basic maroon.
That's an exotic, esoteric paint job, and not what I am referring too.
I'm talking about a standard metallic paint job, done no differently than the paint on your car or mine, for which they charge, a significant additional premium, simply because it's a Candy Apple color...I don't know how to make myself any clearer.
However, it's not very important. If anyone knows, they'll post it I'm sure.
