Default Base???

I'm not sure if I understand this...usually the description "base" is given to cars that are striped down little if no optioned cars...is a 1lz a base z06? I'm just not willing to call my car a "base" model lol...sounds cheap

A "base" means standard body with standard engine, has nothing to do with trim or other options.

Above that are the Grand Sport, Z06, or ZR1, depending on the year.

You just have to see how the word was used. It's just a convenient way to say "Coupe or Convertible" instead of "Z06" or "ZR1" or "Grand Sport."

However it seems like some people look down at a "1lt" trim even on a Grand Sport or Z06.

you can't really call an '08 Z51, 4LT a base, no more than you can call a 1LT ZR1 a base, maybe just call them what they are instead .... just sayin'....

100%. I like my Vert and wouldn't trade it for the fastest or widest coupe in the world.

When the C6 was introduced for the '05 MY, GM gave it no name except Corvette. With the Z06 in '06, it had a name, so the "Corvette" name couldn't be used as a sub-model and the lower priced model just became known as the base model. Of course, those who bought the Z51 option, considered their's to be superior and even created badges to support that opinion. Today, the term "base" is applied to any C6 that GM didn't assign a model name. It has no relationship to options or the lack of same.

Thankfully, GM resolved the problem with the C7 by calling the initial offering a Stingray.

On the contrary I look done on anything other than the 1LT trim package wise.

Now performance upgrades are cool but the creature comfort gizmos are not desirable for myself.

Leather seats if not a base supplied would be needed.

I love my 1LT base. I can just add whatever options I want.

The whole base thing just seems weird...why not just call it a c6...as many call the z06 a c6z06 etc. The way I see it, a vette is a vette, some are faster some are not so faster...in the end at the given time period of production it was among the finest production sports cars on the planet. No need to look down on anything.

Evidently some iterations of our cars have become somewhat of a benchmark to beat these days...everything vs the newest speed demon vette are the tests of the day. Why be cocky about it, be proud and be humbled that some of the so called called supercars of the day are measured by if they can beat a Chevrolet with a pushrod v8!

When someone says to you, "Nice Vette, man!" just say, "Thanks!" 'Nuff said.

I'm with ya there clive. Like I always say....when I use to have my coupe and I would pull up next to a vert at a red light I would say to myself...."man I wish I would have gotten a convertible" Now when I pull up in my vert next to a coupe I never say "Man I wish I would have gotten a coupe. Coupes are great if thats what you want...but theres nothing better than dropping the top on a nice day/night.

I will add that my base convertible is the best model of all the C6s made. Also, I am legend in my own mind.

Pretty good answer ,but actually the first time GM listed separate models started in 1999 with a base coupe ,base convertible , and RPO 1YY37 base corvette hardtop. In 2001 the RPO code changed to Z06 hardtop and as we all know stayed till the end of 2004. Then in 2006 it returned as 1YY87 Z06. Z51 was only a option package.
