When I bought my 05 coupe it was a 1sb coupe. Fully loaded coupe. Then in 06 I bought a 2LT Vert. Mid grade on the options.
In 07 I bought a 3lt coupe.
There was only 1LT, 2LT,3LT and Z06. People called the 1LT the base model.
Now that we have the GS all narrow fender C6 are called base.
Call it what you want, I call it mine and I like it.
AFAIK there is no place in Corvette advertising or in the ordering guide, and I've seen a lot, that uses the word "base" when referring to a model. It's either called "Corvette" or sub-divided into "Coupe" or "Convertible".
I suspect the term was used by the aftermarket parts stores when they created their catalogs for the '05 MY to differentiate between a non-Z51 option and the Z51 option. Since nearly every other component (not including transmission related) was identical for both coupes and verts, the simple solution for a quick ID was "base" or "Z51". Then when the Z06 was introduced for the '06 MY, they used the term "base" as a model and "Z06" as the other model.
Aftermarket suppliers are notorious for only adding new stuff to their catalogs and not bothering to correct or update older data. Try going into your local parts store and asking for rotors for an '09. After you get past the "base, Z06, or ZR1" question and you don't have the Z51 option, you'll get the "standard" or "base" rotors which won't work if you have either the F55 or J55 option.
Why people let the aftermarket term be considered demeaning is beyond me. I love my F55 model.
Difference is that at base Camaro V6 runs quarter in 14 seconds while the base Corvette can run it as quickly as 12.3....."base" corvette is nothing like a V6 stang or camaro when it comes to performance and that is all that matters!
1/4 mile times or relative performance means nothing.
And it doesn't matter. I don't know why base has such a negative connotation. Would you prefer the use of the word "normal" instead?
LOL....don't you know that the notion of Man wanting to constantly "One Up" his fellow man has been around since that boy and girl ate that apple from the tree. It even comes out in our choice of words. It goes something like this...." Me Tarzan (thumping Chest) and I have GS....and you only have a "Base".....lOL.

Yeah, which is why I don't like, nor do I talk to car people in real life. People try to engage me and I just say thanks and then tell them I'm in a hurry.
When the C6 was introduced for the '05 MY, GM gave it no name except Corvette. With the Z06 in '06, it had a name, so the "Corvette" name couldn't be used as a sub-model and the lower priced model just became known as the base model. Of course, those who bought the Z51 option, considered their's to be superior and even created badges to support that opinion. Today, the term "base" is applied to any C6 that GM didn't assign a model name. It has no relationship to options or the lack of same.
Thankfully, GM resolved the problem with the C7 by calling the initial offering a Stingray.

you are so good - can you help me with a description of a past psycho bi*ch GF - I need that just cuz other lesser psychos are out there now - the differentiation would help.
Many posters perpetuate this "base" business by referring to their car as such.
If the model is not relevant to the thread, what difference does it make?
i.e. "My tpms doesn't work on my base '10 2LT Z51 black coupe. Any help?"

Same reason people like to tell us what interior package they have and what color their car is when they're troubleshooting a mechanical issue.
"I have a check engine light in my '09 velocity yellow 3LT coupe". That information is completely irrelevant to the issue and they just want to tell people about their car.

Even funnier is that they give the color of the car, but they don't mention that the car has an aftermarket supercharger on it...
In general, people don't realize how much of the C6 is common to all models of the C6.

Just buy my book "101 reasons murder is better than divorce" and your GF problems will become inconsequential.
