I just got a tech 2 from careucar. Was about $450 with $130 in shipping. Works great. Here is a long thread on them.https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...off-tech2.html

Did it come with the Serial to USB cable, or did you have to buy it separately (for pass-through to Tis2000, that you have to VM into Tis2000, since the cracked version only runs on XP)?

Also, what firmware version on the GM card, or did you have to update the firmware to a newer cracked version isntead? From the site, looks like the firmware is only to 2007 and older cars.

Website a little confusing but it says that it'll do diag up to 2014, it can do programming up to 2007 with the TIS software but the more I read, the more confusing it gets. I would opt for the first option which seems to be everything bundled up for $315 plus shipping.
Is this right or am I off?

I haven't done any programing yet, getting XP installed on my old laptop. I've heard you can't do pass through programing, must down load into tech 2 , then upload into car. On there web page they talk about the one I got as being the "best". Didn't want to chance getting a bad one so I opted for the best with case. Other places sell them at lower prices, are they all the same? I don't know. Careucar worked for me. I was GM tech for 35-40 years, this tech 2 works like the ones I used at my job. I retired 7 years ago.

On a new lap top, you use VM workstation (or any type of VM to load XP on to it, then you need the cracked version of TIS 2000 to load on top of that). Hence when you are setting up VM, use the XP operating system as the working system for VM, then Crack TIS-200 as the install image as the VM program to load once the VM has booted up in XP.

Without the cracked version of TIS 2000, you would have to buy a GM subscrition at thousands of dollars a year to be able to run an un-cracked TIS 2000 program.

Now on your laptop, if you don't have a RS-232 serial port (which most don't), then you need the RS-232 serial to USB cable to be able to use the Tech II as a pass through module between the car and the laptop.

http://www.automationdirect.com/adc/...dems/USB-RS232

Here is the driver for the cable that you will need to install.
http://support.automationdirect.com/.../usbrs232.html

As for the GM card in the Tech II, it can be updated with the latest firmware is needed, but since you are going to be using a Cracked version of Tis 2000, then the card needs to be upgraded a little different that through TIS 2000 instead (like you did at the dealer).

Hence the crack version of TIS 2000 works by not logging on to GM, but running stand alone instead. I bring this up, since if you need to update firmware in the car, then you can get the one day subscription from GM to download the firmware that way with a uncracked version of TIS 2000, or you can pull the needed file off the web to load it into the the cracked TIS 2000 to load it that way into, using the Tech II as the pass through module.

The GM card is loaded with GM-English V33.004, so the latest and greatest for the US gm cars, and not sure that they are will any more updates for it, since GM is moving to the MDI Tech 3 instead.

Hence with the MDI, the tool is used as a pass through for the laptop via wifi, and cleaner/faster to just use the laptop, then peeking at the Tech II buttons, or have it as your pass through device with all the cables instead.

Simply, as the MDI Tech 3 clones with cracked software become more available, it will lower the price even more on the clone Tech II as well.

Gm is moving away from the Tech II and into the MDI instead.

So if your looking to program on newer than 2013 models (about as far as the Tech II clones are programmed to), then you are looking for a cloned MDI Tech III instead. The cloned MDI Tech III can do everything that the tech II can do as well, plus the new models as well.

Hence the MDI is used for a straight pass through only (no display or buttons on it), and your using GM MDI Tech 3 Tech2Win GDS 2 Software instead. Also, this is the glitch, since it easy to clone the MDI, but not sure anyone has cracked the GM MDI Tech 3, Tech2Win GDS 2 Software yet isntead (get it to run free standing, without having a GM account.

I use the MD806 made by Autel
also in reference for active handling control
on the passenger side pull up flooring covering and access to fuses
next to the right you will see a module
place pressure with hands to seat all connectors this will clear active handling alarm in most cases as the dealer will charge at least 1k for anew one
