I just looked at my dealers estimate for the job, with the POS balancer from GM. ($234)
$1091 and that wouldn't include alignment either or new belts or seals

Alignment? With an HB replacement? What is that about, NSF?

The belts and seal are cheap online.

I did Rock auto because I was already getting the HB there, so shipping was not much more. Both belts are Dayco, and made in the USA.

5060800DR (main belt) $10.08; and, 5040410DR (AC belt) $5.38

Comeon Bucky, I said the POS balancer form GM was $234, then labor for the install was another $800+ and the ever bunch of BS charge for hazardous waste removal of $25, no mention of alignment cause they drop the steering setup to access the HB, maybe its included but I think not. And if/when I get it done I would replace the belts at that time Obviously not a lot of money for that but since they are right there why not
I will try a independent shop if I can find one that sounds like they are in the know

Just an FYI, I didn't drop my steering rack. Just loosened it and moved it out of the way. I did not do an alignment. That was 15,000 miles ago and the tires are wearing perfectly and the car tracks straight. Alignment didn't seem needed to me. Maybe I just got lucky. I honestly don't know, but my car was and is fine.

Buddy, if you want to get a new alignment, that's your call. I understood all the rest of your post. From what I have read, there is nothing being done that changes the alignment, but if it hasn't been done in awhile, it can't hurt. I have an indie local that quoted $600 for everything but parts, with me supplying the parts. They do a lot of Corvettes, so I might use them if I decide to do it.

Imho as long as you don't mess with the steering adjustments, you shouldnt need an alignment. Don't mess with the tie-rods there's no way to get out of alignment

I think there's a good video of a dealer installing a HB with a sledge. Saw it a few years ago.

Good to know, I was under the impression that it was needed for access, so I assume that meant re-alignment

PS and when someone throws out the term "buddy" to me it usual means we aint, maybe I'm taking it the wrong way but that's the way I feel

I didnt have to do an alignment.
What i dont understand is why would you replace one POS part with another POS?
My stock balancer had wobble at 16K miles and finally changed it at 18K miles.
No way I would put another GM HB on...

Exactly correct, I wouldn't, hence the adjective POS
I would go with Powerbond or ATI

I was thinking the same thing. ATI sounds better from what most of you say on here. I'll defer to the majority. I want it to last for a while.

Because it's free. Covered under GMPP extended warranty, $0 ded.

My initial "POS" lasted over 85k miles, and AFAIK none of the other C6's in our club, ranging from garage queens up to 100k miles, have been replaced.

Definitely it's a sub-standard part, and some of them fail quite early. Some of them don't. As long as GM keeps replacing them free of charge, it's a pretty good deal for me.
If I was paying out of my own pocket, a different story.

BTW, the dealer replaced my belts and front seal at my request, they charged me a few bucks for the parts but nothing for labor.
They also said an alignment was not necessary, I didn't believe them and took the car for an alignment. Front numbers were almost exactly where they had been set about 5k miles before the balancer job.

GM method of doing job lowers the cradle for clearance.cradle lowered and repositioned means it should have wheel alignment.GM service manual stipulates alignment should be done.lot of people and shops skip that step.if not concerned with tire life do as you please.lots on here claim to be more informed than GM
