I'm going to second this, as I think that it is a case of group think. There have been multiple studies on this sort of behavior. An other example would be when you are at the store and two registers are open and no one moves to the second register, because no one is in that line, instead they all stand in the line with the other people. Same for parking. They see one car parked there so they also park there.
The above being said, when I see another corvette in the parking lot I always park my corvette right next to it. It's just way to beautiful of a sight having two corvettes parked along side each other to pass up. From what I have seen on these forums though it seems like some people would like to kill me for parking my vette next to theirs.
Can't speak for anyone else here but as for me if some one parks their vett next to my vett. I have no problem with it what so ever. As a matter a fact I can even appreciate having another corvette park next to mine. If I see another vett parked I will usually park next to it and usually find my self admiring it as I exit mine, but I always try and leave plenty of room between for door opening. I think most here would probably agree with that. And you are correct vetts parked along side each other looks pretty cool.

All depends on what kind of shape the vette next to ya is in. If it is pristine just like mine then I wouldn't care. But if it's got more door nicks and scratches than last nights Demolition Derby winner then yes I would have a problem with it....
I just went back and reread my original post and didn't see that I referred to anyone as a POS.
Icecap,
These posts do not follow in "reply order", unless you use the "reply" button, which I chose not to. If you did not use that term, why in the world would you think I was referring to you? I was not referring to you, or a specific person, although a specific person did use that term, and others implied as much.
My point is that some people on here are trashing folks simply for parking next to them.

That is what I do, too. As for getting upset with others parking next to us...what is the BFD...as long as they park carefully enough, and don't hit your car, why get the attitude? Owning a Corvette is nothing really special, IMO.
Thanks for the clarification. The whole point of my rant was why people seek to park by people who go far out of their way just so they can avoid potential parking dings. I have no problem with car club events, show and shines and cruises because I'm with like minded people with a similar respect and admiration for others cars. In public parking lots its an incident looking for an opportunity.
Cheers

Yep, I guess I'd have to agree but seriously just how many vets do see that look like that? Most vette owners that I know are very respectful of other vett owners even if their car is a little older or maybe not as pristine as some. But I suppose there is always that occasional dip-stick that just don't care and I would prefer that they don't park anywhere near me regardless of what they are driving. But actually in my post I was referring to a real car guy, someone that actually takes pride in their ride.

Yes you make a valid point. Most vette owners do take care of their rides. Occasionally i'll see a trashed one, but not too often.

I don't care about the condition of the car next to me. I do care about the respect that people have for other people's property. I've seen some pretty sad looking cars, who's owners are very careful when parking to provide space for others around them. I've also seen some with brand new cars who care about nothing including their own car.
Give me that respectful guy anytime, whatever he drives. I feel bad for you guys who live in fear of someone having no respect for you or your property.

Most people are generally not around (alert !!...since this is Corvette Forum let me be clear, notice I say "generally") when the person, or persons park next to them. So i'm not sure how any of us can know what kind of respect that person has for others. So we have to go by what we see. Thus if I see a car that is a total POS then i'm going to assume that the owner does not care about his car, therefore i'm not gonna take the chance that even though he/she doesn't give a crap about their car that they are gonna care about the nice car parked next to them. Too many people these days with the "Oh, whats the big deal, it's only a car" attitude. (Just note some post in this forum). Lets face it,if someone nicks your paint in a parking lot, it's usually not gonna be cost effective to start the court proceedings to have it fixed by the person that did it and/or would it be cost effective to turn it into your insurance for a claim.....
Well, I guess that just goes to show that some folks tolerate door dings more that others. And that's o-key doe-key fine if it doesn't bother ya all that much, But I personally hate door dings on any of my vehicles and will do all I can do to avoid them.
Now as fae as the once a week rant on parking lots, you may think that you have a special car that no one is to go near. Maybe, just maybe, all you that believe they have the right to park in a public lot and no one is allowed to park near them are living in a dream world. Besides you may be calling attention to yourself by parking out in the lower 40. Also it could be that those that park near you are also wanting to keep their cars away from the others. Maybe they are saying you and your car are not really special. Finally if you don't want people parking near your Corvette I suggest that you not take it to a public parking lot.
To each his own...I park away from others and do my best to prevent door dings and the like. However for those who have that "it's only a car" mentality (I get it) I'm guessing you also drive your car thru the local car wash (with the brushes) or let whoever is hosting a fundraiser wash your car. And that's cool if you do...the more reason I look for the secluded spot at the back of the parking lot...IT'S FRIDAY!!
