I park where ever I can find a decent spot. I try not to park next to someone that does not take car of their car for obvious reasons. Nice part about plastic cars is they are more forgiving when it comes to door dings. Unless some just flat slams it into you. I worry more about cars on the hiway that follow to close behind me and trucks that change lanes in front of me with barely enough room to do so.
Key to parking is.......park next to a nicer upscale car make/model that is in GREAT condition. if those people take care of their car odds are they'll take care of yours as well. you don't have to park in back of lot, just park next to someone who takes care of their stuff.
One thing...you didn't mention the condition of those two vehicles that parked next to you. I was thinking about this today when I had to make a run to the post office, and wife blocked my truck, so just took the vette (oh darn...). Anyway, I parked far from all who may enter the lot, however, living in 5 different states in the last 10 years, I think all post offices have crappy parking lots! Anyway, when I came out, a new Camaro, and a nice Beamer was parked on either side of me. It was at that instance that, and this is directed toward your situation, that they parked next to (me) you because of a mutual respect for each others cars??? Maybe not...but it's possible, right??
Some people cannot stand the good fortune of others and they know it pisses us off. They are the a$$hats of the world who will never go away and multiply faster than we would prefer.
I've read a few post regarding this topic before but now I have my own rant. WTF? What makes these Corvettes a magnet in parking lots?
Its a long weekend and stat holiday in Canada and freeways, gas stations, restaurants and mall parking lots are a zoo. I arranged to meet someone at a restaurant just off the freeway. I've kept our collector edition Corvette looking like it just left the showroom even though its 10 years old and low mileage.
I drove to the extreme back corner of the strip mall where there was a vacant store that closed. In front of that store were about 20 empty parking spaces and I parked there right in the middle spot. As I was walking to the restaurant to meet up I couldn't believe my eyes as a woman pulled into the spot to my right and close enough that her door could have hit my car and a Raised 4X4 pick up pulled into the spot on the drivers side. I ran back to the car said "screw this" (censored version) got back in the car and drove off.
LMFAO if your too afraid to park it in a parking lot you shouldn't be driving it...

Agree! It's not like clunkers go out of their way to park next to a nice shiny Corvette

I personally don't shop at Wally World. But a lot of Vette owners do. So just where in a Wal-Mart parking lot are you gonna find a person that takes care of their "Stuff".....LOL. I mean have you seen some of the on line pics of the people that shop there ??.....

I avoid Walmart as much as I can. But if it has to happen, will take my truck, or most likely ride along with the wife in her car. "Oh, you're going to Walmart?"..... "Mind if I tag along?" Sorry, it's not a dis on the wife, just more of the fact that I really don't know what I would do if I came out and saw a dent in the vette....

Reason: spelling
now the douche thats taking up more than 1 space dont act surprised if someone does something stupid to your car.
I saw a vette in the back corner of the parking lot at the mall here a couple months ago that was parked in two spaces. No cars within 5 or 6 rows and those were parked by themselves also. Dropped my wife for a hair appt. When I came back there were two cars parked in so close he must have had to go through the hatch to get in. And still no other cars anywhere near them. Those were the real douche rockets. He got the last laugh though as I saw a patrol car ticketing both of them when I left the mall.
No doubt if you google long enough you can find photos or a video on it as they were probably quite proud of themselves. This whole shaming thing and trying to out butthead the next guy is really out of control. I wish people could just ride their ride and enjoy it.

The vehicles that parked on either side of me were nothing special or nice so I was quite surprised that they had to park at the extreme far end of a strip mall where I parked completely alone and not taking more than one space. There were probably 20 parking spaces there not used with no other vehicles around. One vehicle was driven by a woman and it looked like a Mazda 5 the other one was a pickup truck with a lift kit sporting super mudder tires.
In retrospect I should have left the Vette at home and taken the DD which had so many parking lot dings I don't care anymore. The Corvette though is our toy and fun car that primarily gets used for car club events and cruises, vacations or just for fun trips. The car is in virtually showroom condition in spite of the fact its 10 years old and our goal is to give it to our grandson who is currently 7 years old as a graduation present. Having some idiots parking close enough to possibly put a ding or gouge in it with a car door is not part of the plan.
As far as the theory about nice cars wanting to park by you because of their being careful about their own cars doesn't work for me since I recently had a bad experience with my daily driver. I had an expensive fairly new infinity SUV pull in beside me and the woman driving it threw her car door open so hard I could feel the bump sitting in my car when it connected and left a dime sized dent in my passenger side door. I envy you guys that have a Vette as a daily driver and don't worry about it or anally wanting to protect it from harm.
When you characterize someone as a POS simply because they park next to you, regardless of where you parked, you might be part of the problem. Yeah, some beaters will do it for a joke, but mostly it will be folks who know you are careful with your car, and appreciate that you will be careful with theirs.

I just went back and reread my original post and didn't see that I referred to anyone as a POS.
it is just not a Corvette phenomenon.. I park all my cars old and new a long ways away in multiple vacant spots... when I come out there is always someone parked near me.. it is like they dont know where to park on their own and they think - "well here is a parked car , must be ok to park here." at Lowes and Home Depot - this happens a lot.
Although not very practical in my climate, if I drove one as a daily I would be like many of the guys here. Life will happen to your car. Having brainless morons around it is just a fact of life. That is why we have insurance. In the end, good common sense is key.

I'm going to second this, as I think that it is a case of group think. There have been multiple studies on this sort of behavior. An other example would be when you are at the store and two registers are open and no one moves to the second register, because no one is in that line, instead they all stand in the line with the other people. Same for parking. They see one car parked there so they also park there.
The above being said, when I see another corvette in the parking lot I always park my corvette right next to it. It's just way to beautiful of a sight having two corvettes parked along side each other to pass up. From what I have seen on these forums though it seems like some people would like to kill me for parking my vette next to theirs.
