Default Harmonic Blancer

How many of you have looked to see if your harmonic balancer is wobbling and if it is how much did you pay to get it fixed

I replaced mine before it started wobbling. The new ATI damper was about 350 bucks. I did the labor myself as part of a cam swap.

Another very good HB ...

Dayco 'PowerBond' Harmonic Balancer
P/N: PB1117SS
$ 222.97 Shipped

Personally, I wouldn't go through all the trouble replacing it until it actually starts to wobble ... Some engines will go forever without a problem, while some balancers will fail early in life (it's a crap shoot).

And by the way .... If you ever do replace the harmonic balancer, DON'T replace it with another OEM balancer.

Unless GM is replaceing it for free

Good idea ....

That would be a good time to replace the HB with a quality aftermarket HB.

The HB has to be removed anyway in order to replace the camshaft.

I'm looking at a C6 to purchase. How do you know if the HB is wobbling? And to add to my stupidity...where is it??

Mine is wobbling a little. (Relative term). I'm under warranty but don't know if they will replace it simply because it's wobbling. However if I wait for it to cause major damage (assuming it will someday) then they will have to replace much more than the HB.

Not to hijack the OP's thread but has anybody had it replaced under warranty simply because it wobbles a bit? I'm sure many techs would simply say "yeah, they all do that!"

Also if they do replace it can I upgrade to a better aftermarket unit and pay the difference?

Flashlight under the hood looking down from drivers side. If looking straight on from the front end the HB is located about 8 o'clock (for reference).

Passenger side gives a much clearer view.

If it's wobbling, you'll see it.

I paid $250 for the TrickFlow balancer with Continental belts and a $10 GM crank bolt.

I paid ~$800 for installation

That's what I used but thoroughly inspect if you get it from Summit. They shipped me 2 that were obviously dropped on a hard surface floor, they agreed and told me they checked all of their warehouses and their complete supply of Powerbond HB were damaged the same way
So I bought mine from Rock Auto, little more pricey but it was perfect, FYI I'm sure it has been corrected by now as this was about 4 months ago

Chevy replaced mine under warranty. The invoice states it was ~ $1200.00. It probably cost them < $200 in parts/labor.

Yep....unfortunate, but that seems to be about the going rate for the R&R at a the stealer ship.

Wasn't a stealership just my normal mechanic. He also did a couple other minor things while he had the car up the air. I think it's about a 6 hour job per the GM book...

So I've heard but I've tried from that side and can't see it. Mine is only visible from the drivers side. And clearly so. 2010 GS. I dunno'.

Maybe what I'm thinking is the HB is clearly some other pulley and my HB is completely wobble free, as anything I see from the passenger side is running true. It is only the lower left pulley only visible from my drivers side that wobbles. If it isn't the HB then what is it?
