where is the underhood light?

That is true. In case anyone is wondering how that could happen, the underhood light uses a mercury switch to turn on the light. The switch is activated when the hood is raised and the mercury drifts down to close the circuit and turn on the light. GM found that during transport, some cars would be riding at a severe angle, similar to having the hood open, and the light would come on and cause an unintended battery drain.

I have the same light in my 2000 Deville, not in my Corvette. It's all in the bulb. I put a 5050 led bulb in my Caddy and it is nice and bright. I assume they use the same type bulb as it looks like the same light. The light can be very effective with a simple switch to a led bulb.

AFAIK the factory installed light was discontinued after 2006 MY. I don't think they ever got rid of the connector though. Some have installed them on later years, usually along with the crossed flags hood liner. That said, the light is mostly useless and you're better off with a flashlight.
