Plus, if it isn't obvious, with this stay at home stuff, we have plenty of time on our freshly washed hands.
You guys are always welcome to take a road trip down to sunny Florida and do some hands on assistance installing my stuff. We can make a full how-to video. I have plenty of the 2 bare essentials - TP and Beer!

WHAT, you got TP, where the hell did you find that at ? I'm afraid Florida's quite a ways from Montana, so I don't see myself heading that way any time soon, sorry.

No traffic to worry about, what the hell else you have to do? Actually, I'm looking forward to the install myself, it will give me a project while nothing else is going on. All of the info and advice will, no doubt, turn out to be priceless, but I have installed aftermarket systems in vehicles going back many years now, and almost always used Crutchfield. I'm talking all the way back to the days when you had to browse through an actual Crutchfield catalog and then call them on the phone to work out what you needed with a "consultant". Of course, back in those days, they gave you the install gear for free too. When I lived in North Carolina, you could order something one day and UPS would be delivering it the next since they are located in Virginia.
I've always given my wife a hard time because, ever since we moved to Florida, 2 years ago, she buys the big bulk packs of TP and paper towels. Gets on my nerves because we don't have a lot of storage and it takes up a lot of room. As it turned out, right before the great TP shortage began, she had just made a trip to Sam's Club. I won't be giving her a hard time over it anymore. Since all this started, I was lucky once to find a 3 pack of very crappy paper towels left on a shelf in a store, and then last weekend, we happened upon a 9 pack of TP. Other than that, the shelves have remained empty.

Yep, Crutchfield's pretty good to deal with, I've bought a number of things from them over the years. One thing I ordered from them was a subwoofer for my Polaris Rzr, and I wasn't impressed with it at all (not their fault) and they took it back, no questions asked.
As far as the TP situation at our house, my sister in law was going to come out here from Chicago for a week to look for a house to buy before all the stay at home restrictions started in Montana and right after the very beginning of the TP rush so we told her if she was coming out, she had to supply her own TP. So she got on Amazon and ordered some, and had it sent to us, so the next thing we know is we had UPS delivering a big box of about 96 rolls to our house (I guess that's all she could find at the time) Shortly after that Montana shut down everything, and it wasn't long after Illinois did the same thing so she ended up canceling her trip out here, but we have all of her TP, and she's not getting it back, ha ha ha ha.
What a difference a day makes. I left all my items in my Crutchfield "cart" but didn't pull the trigger yesterday. Now, it's saying the head unit I had selected is discontinued. I'm ordering Kenwood DDX8706S instead. It's a CD/DVD unit and I really don't care about anything disc related, but oh well.
Thanks for the info on removing the console - good stuff.
I'm taking advantage of the Crutchfield service to pre-wire my interface harness for me. The PAC adapter description states the below with respect to the parking brake. However, I've read something somewhere about a wire needing to be run to the parking brake. Does this adapter take care of that? I realize I could somehow just ground that wire and fake the system out, but I don't care about being able to do things while moving that it doesn't want me to do. On the other hand, I almost never set my parking brake and having to do so just to access something on the radio (not sure what that would be) would be a pain. Or is this all a non-issue since I am not adding on-board NAV and doubt I'll be playing videos.
provides Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS), parking brake, and reverse connections for installing a navigation receiver
This is on sale at best buy. I just got it but haven't installed it. It has wireless Android Auto.
Just curious if you added the splitter cable also ?
I have ordered it but it taking forever to get here. Fortunately, the location is easy to get to on the coupe so I'll plug it in when I get it (late next week according to tracking ...).

Well using this site http://www.dogstarradio.com/sirius_map.php It looks like Florida has some terrestrial transmitters/repeaters so it might work well for you and C5forGreg if you guys ever drive through any of these areas.
Timely thread since I am getting ready to upgrade the head unit in my 2011 GS Coupe. I ordered the splitter and 10’ cable off eBay around the 1st of April. Splitter arrived in a few days, 10’ cable arrived from China today. I was waiting to get those parts in before ordering the head unit. Well of course I had planned on ordering the DMX9706s, which also disappeared from my cart. I will probably go with the DDX8706s but also will never use the CD/DVD. Crutchfield has no guidance as the when the new models will arrive. I’m also going to research potential Apple Car Play issues since at least tethered is important to me.
While I’m deciding, I found this square dual connector on Amazon:

Wondering if anyone has tried to fit this in the rear USB/Audio input slot in the rear of the console?
You ever hear of the saying, you can't fit a square peg in a round hole ? I think that would apply in this case as the current power point in the center glove box is round, I'd suggest one of these, but they're currently out if the dual ones. currently I personally have a single port one ran in mine, it works fine. https://www.ebay.com/itm/USA-Car-Das...WILY1ffi9zwXQg

Not trying to fit a square peg in a round hole. I was trying to keep the power outlet. 2011 may have been the first year and maybe only on 3lt cars with Bose (not sure) that Chevrolet put USB and Audio in connectors in the rear of the console. The OEM is more rectangular than square but the Amazon one doesn’t give accurate dimensions.

Oh, ok, didn't realize that, my bad They kinda give the cutout hole dimensions for it in the Q&A page.
No need to Way too many variations to know all of them.
Besides this has got me thinking. If the OEM USB/Audio just plug in the back of the OEM head unit, I may be able to keep them as they are. The only reason I need a second USB is that my wife’s phone is always running on fumes. She can continue to use the USB charger in the power outlet and not get control of the head unit.😎

Oh good god no, don't ever let her have control of the head unit, that would be like her driving the car from the passenger seat
The factory USB connector has a Mini B plug that goes into the back of it from the factory head unit. You can get a USB to Mini B cable and re-use the factory connector. I’m not sure if it would have any compatibility issues with CarPlay or anything else. Worth a shot though.
Here is some pics. Anyone have a good suggestion on how to salvage the auxiliary cable plug? It has a 5 pin connector on the back side.

I could be wrong but when you buy from Crutchfield and use the pre-wired harness option they will not set it up for the dvd to play while driving. Your on your own.

Most of the mini b to usb a cables are USB 2.0 the only 3.0 cable I’ve found is a few weeks away in China. Does the OEM plug disassemble further than what is in the picture?

What does the other jack do that the 5 pin plug plugs into ?
