Hi All:
I currently have a '95 Lingenfelter, but looking to get into a C6. In many of the For Sale ads, I see questions on whether the heads have been fixed. I can't find any details in the forum on exactly what the problem is, and what years are affected. Can someone give me a quick lesson?
Thanks,
Nick
It has to do with the 7 liter motor found in the Z06 and a few C6 427 Covertibles. The motors are known to drop a valve. Check out the Z06 section of the forum for more information or do a search for dropped valves.

*The* head 'problem' applies/alludes to LS7 only, Z06 '06 thru' '13 and Camaro Z28.
Allegedly valve geometry wasn't quite right causing premature valve guide wear.
Valve breaks, gets ingested ventilating block. Game over. New LS7. Very expensive LS7.
Fix has to date been rebuild heads w/ new guides, had it done on my '08, first owner.
No other LS series had/have prevalent issues w/ heads, until a lifter fails anyway.
Correction to my post above, the 7.0 liter LS7 was available in the C6 427 convertible. They were a stand alone model and not considered a Z06 or a GS. (Someone please correct me if I have that wrong)

Thanks to both of you. I didn't look in the Z06 section. Probably why I could find anything.
Thanks,
Nick
You will see people saying they haven’t had an issue with their LS7, but they are the lucky ones. When I was searching for a C6 last year I spoke with three different tuners because I planned engine modifications. All three of them told me to avoid any LS7 engine without the heads being reworked. One of those tuners was a guy I used when I lived in Illinois and he knew he didn’t stand a chance on doing my mods - he was just giving me advice. He tells his LS7 customers “Pay me $2,500 now or $25,000 later - your choice.”
There is also a class action lawsuit going on somewhere in the country against GM that was filed by LS7 owners. A Judge won’t issue class action unless he/she doesn’t think their claim was valid. Good luck finding a car!
