GM's with manual transmissions required you to be in reverse in order to remove the keys for years and years. I have no idea what that guy who has been driving for 50 years is talking about.

Buy an automatic and you won't have to worry about it.

I don't know much about general GM's since I lean towards other makes mostly (except for Corvettes), but my '03 Corvette and my '92 Corvette have manual transmissions and they don't need to be in reverse to remove the keys.
