No, GM still says there isn't a problem.

I will. Something funny. My wife hates my Z. I told her that if we get married I get to keep the car. She agreed. I doubt she thought it would last this long. I appreciate all the feed back. One of my favorite lines on the forum is “Drive it like you stole it!” I will at least one a week. I will keep the forum up to date.

..almost all of them do, especially if you spend a lot of time wrenching on them as I used to do. I am envious of the small minority of members here that have supportive (and even encouraging) wives.

So long as they don't do any additional damage during the motor swap (ask them to triple check the transmission fill level!!) and they replace the tank lines and other misc. parts, you should be good (of course now you will have the valve guide issue to deal with again, assuming you hold on to it for a while).

I am curious what condition led you to find the bad lifter? Just excessive noise?

Yes. The motor made a distinctive rhythmic thump thump clank. I noticed it right away.

Default New clutch and flywheel too!

Dealership recommended replace the clutch and flywheel. Down to 50% life. No extra labor because everything already torn apart. I jumped on it...about $800. I figured with the new motor I am going to keep my toy for a while so what the heck.

After the tear down this is what went belly up. You could see “copper”, whatever that means, and at that point it was metal to metal and metal shavings all around. The GMEPP adjuster said new motor. Anybody out there ever encounter this?

Honestly, sounds like a false diagnosis to me - every LS7 run more than 100 hrs shows wear in this area.

I guess at this point it doesn't really matter, you are geting a new engine.

And make sure they replace your oil cooler & lines, your sump lines, and they disassemble the sump to clean it...that should be their standard protocol, but some dealerships have proven to be unaware/careless. Anything with oil circulating through it will potentially have metal trapped in it.

Dan also made a good point in post #44 about topping of the trans.

I was going to say the same thing as y'all have already. Any metallic debris in the oiling system will require a new cooler, and hoses along with the tank being removed and cleaned. GMPP will authorize that and we've never had an issue getting the additional parts and labor covered through them.

$19,864.48. Labor 5,258.99. 1,1806.67 was mine for a new clutch, flywheel and alignment. Noted differences: The new motor is very quiet. Much more than the original when it was new. Clutch action is smoother with more bounce. Starts with a roar. Hit the start button, it cranks 1 or 2 times and varoom! Only had it for 3 days but it looks like Reliable Chevrolet of Richardson did an excellent job as usual. New warranty rule is 10 years old or 100,000 miles. Greater than this GMEPP will not sell you a warranty. I will kill the current warranty and get a new one before 1/2/2020. I am happy!

Great news I'm happy for you! Do you know if they cleaned the oil cooler lines and tank?

Also double check the tranny fluid level. All too common to kill the transmission after a motor swap because they don't top it off.
