Project Z0SICK
It all started around Christmas time, I was on the look out for a c6 rolling chassis. After an intense search on google, ebay, autotrader, etc, I saw a post on Corvette Forum where a fellow member had mentioned that he saw a local shop in Indiana who has an 06 Z06. JACK POT. Since he didn’t post the contact information for this company it was back to google to locate this dealer. Everyone was on holiday for new years and I was very excited to scoop this deal before one of my fellow forum members beat me to it. January 3rd 8am I made the call ! It seemed a little risky to cross the border to pickup a car which I have never seen in person. Brent told me the body was mint, and I would be very happy with the purchase. I figured lets take a chance, and hammered out the deal. Brent had his father load up the car and meet me half way which was the Detroit/Windsor border. What service ! This was my third Corvette to import into Canada from the USA so I was prepared. It was a breeze. My very first Z was finally on its way home.

I had recently purchased a Hoist and installed it in my shop. Everything was to be ready for my new whip to arrive. I decided that I wasn’t happy with the condition of the stock seats, so I decided to pickup some new oem seat skins. I found a set of beautiful black ZR1 skins on the forum. After pulling the stock skins off I realized this was no easy task. To my surprise the seat was actually made of carbon fiber.

After the seats were in, I decided she needed a quick wash and wax. I began to realize how lucky I was to find such a clean car ! The realization that my dream of one day owning a c6z06 had finally came true.

Since I had already purchased a Warhawk short block with forged internals early in 2010, it only made sense to drop the hay on some supporting mods. I had been working on some R&D fabrication projects for Rob @ Champion Motors so it was easy to get some help building up a killer motor. The turbo pistons which came with the motor were beautiful ceramic coated JE pistons, but the compression was to low for my Super Charger plans. Rob picked me up a set of big bore 4.125 pistons which would work well with my bad *** 3.625 Callies crank and bling bling Oliver Billet Rods for my 388ci screamer. He also helped me to select a big blower cam which should help keep my high rpm power goals.

In the mean time back at the ranch, I was working on a custom fuel system to support my anticipated high power level. I picked up an APS fuel sending unit & had been working with Jack @ Racetronix to adapt his weather packed double pumper harness to my APS kit. We installed two new Racetronix Walboro GS342 pumps, socks, and custom wired up the sending unit all plug and play with the stock harness. It was quite the mission to drop the entire rear sub frame, suspension, and drive line, but I must say pulling out the stock sending unit and installing the new sending unit in the tank made dropping the rear end look like childs play.

I figured while I had the drive line out of the car, it would be a good time to do some rear end mods. When it comes to custom drag race parts I always call my boys down at ECS. After talking to Doug & Mike, I decided to try out the new Eaton HD carrier.

There were some pro’s and con’s to this install. The price for the Eaton HD carrier complete, almost seems to good to be true considering it came with 4340 hardened shafts, the billet carrier and carbon clutch packs all built into one low price. But it was not an easy install. We had to pop it in and out of the case about 5 times to get the shim height correct. As you can see in the picture below, it is not the identical height from where the ring gear bolts up to where the long shaft bearing is pressed on.

I was searching the Canadian classified ads on the forum which could be described as a daily ritual when I came across a local c6z06 owner who has a brand new set of 360 Forged Mesh 8’s. I had always dreamed of picking up a set of these with Chrome lip and brushed centers. Well, beggers can’t be choosers and at the price I paid, black is the new chrome ! Originally the wheels had a yellow lip, but after a quick trip to Champion, and Pete had them black with blue pin stripe to match the car baby. Thanks Petey !

Last week Rob ordered me a surprise YSi kit from A&A Superchargers which I eagerly await its arrival. I decided to go with a 10 Rib setup which would include a flip drive system. I will be running a 3” blower pully with 8” Balancer. I plan to drop the motor in the car next weekend, more pictures soon to come !

I had a couple of idea's about less frictional loss with a small stroke crank.
I also wanted to see see if we can rev this baby hard and really put the impeller speed to its max.
