Ok. You have convinced me. My order is going to be placed in a few minutes. Darn this Forum. It is worse than the mall for my wife.
You have no idea. Mod fever is a brutal disorder. Once you realize that you have it, it's too late. Symptoms include multiple pages in your Master Card statement and being on a first name basis with the UPS man.
Love to see that ups truck. Common scene at my house.... Wife says,"Hey, here comes the ups truck, what did you order?" I say, "nothing, hes probably just driving by." Truck stops in front of house. Then I say, "Well, there was that one little thing..."
Yeah, when the UPS truck slows down as it passes my house, I start to get excited. Then I remember I didn't order anything (this week). Pavlov would be proud.
Isn't that the truth. When I got this car I promiced myself that bone stock would be fine, and then I heard a C-6 with Magnaflows and I had to have a set, so I ordered a set and had them installed.
Next move was the Kooks and a low temp thermostat. The car now sounds good and runs much better.
Then I hear about Z-industries and Ron Zimmer and his tuning. I drive out and he tunes my car....WOW. Big difference.
So I start out at 342 rwhp and end up at 390 rwhp and 380 rwtq.
Now I am looking for a cam, pushrods and an underdrive pulley.
My friend calls and starts talking about 427 strokers.

Happens to me too.
Had a 10 min conversation with my UPS man 3 days ago when he delivered my Honker. He wanted to see it, so I opened the box. Then we talked cars.

I too am looking to do an intake. Can you Honker buyers tell me why you chose the Honker over the Halltech Stinger? The Stinger is installed in five minutes with no cutting and produces about the same hp.
Both products look great. Looking for a little info.

The Honker is reputed to be a "Cold Air Intake" because it scoops outside air in from in front of the radiator. That's why you have to cut the radiator shroud to mount the intake so it gets air from outside of the engine compartment. Some people have concern that you can also ingest water into the intake if it's raining.
The Stinger has the air intake picking up warm air from within the engine compartment like the stock intake does. You don't have to cut the shroud to access an outside of the engine compartment source, so it installs real fast.
I like the Honker and will be installing mine in the next couple of days.

Bob
Thank you Bob...I will be looking for your results. Good luck with the install.
Since the "scoop" on the front bumper cover is a "cold air intake", me-wonders what kind of airbox the car has, and how they get around water ingestion with a scoop open to outside air.
Jury is still out on an intake choice for me. They all produce similar numbers. The Halltech is the only one that conclusively answers the "water ingestion question", but I think whichever one is closest to GM's Z06 implementation, is the one that's gonna get my $$.
Wonder if we'll be able to order a front bumper cover and the associated plumbing from GMPartsDirect after the car becomes available?
I might mention also, that some of the other intakes offered (or soon to be on the market) boast of a "ram air effect". I don't think the Honker makes such a claim.
A CAI (Cold Air Intake) should be able to allow the engine to produce a little more power than an intake that sucks in hotter air from the engine compartment. The cooler air is more dense and should help make more power.
In the same way, a Turbo or Supercharger pumps up the intake air and provides a lot higher manifold pressure to the intake system - essentially more dense air.
Some of the other intakes claim a "ram air effect" that would increase the density of the air as speed increases. You'd probably have to be above 60mph to get any appreciable ram effect. What happens is that as you increase speed, you pack air into the intake because of the increased speed, and this will in effect increase the density of the air and help the engine make more power at high speeds.
Anyway, the Stinger won't do that, although I think Jim Hall is talking about an "add-on" to be marketed at a later date that may make it a CAI or maybe even take advantage of ram air.
Just after posting above I saw that crabman put up a message about WCC and their Hurricane intake, which will be available next week.
They call it a CAI and a "forced air intake", which I'm sure is another name for ram air. They claim it should not have a water ingestion problem due to their design.

Just my idle thinking on this subject...

I have seen 2 Z06's the last at TMS LSCC show and looked at the scoop and under the hood. From what I could see it is not functional the VIN on the Red Z06 was xxxxxxxxxx48. So I do not know what the scoop will do on a production Z06 but on #48 it had no function except looks.

So it's DOUBLE , eh?
Dave Hill says it's NOT "ram air". GM's website sez it "assists" the engine in reaching 505HP. And from all appearances (at least from what you saw) it does ABSOLUTELY NOTHING...
Wonder if the brake vents actually vent the brakes...

I just finished the install of my Honker. It took about 3-1/2 to 4 hours. I was going slow and trying to do things right.
I just got back from a little drive and I think there is a little bit of "honking" going on up front, but it's hard to tell with the Corsas growling when I really start accelerating. SOTP says there's something there. I did one 1/4 mile run at my "local dragstrip" with my G-Timer and it came out about .2 seconds better and 4 mph faster than my average time before the Honker, but one run doesn't say much.
I took a bunch of pics during install and will post them later for any that are wondering how cutting the shroud works and how the install goes.
The only PITA was, as has been reported, getting the shroud out. It took me an hour to do that. Getting it back in took about 30 minutes.
