Default Worn seat

I have right at 24,000 miles on my 2005 now and I have an issue with my drivers seat. The side bolster has worn a hole in it already from getting in. It’s my daily driver but is only 6 months old. Just wondering if anyone else has had this issue yet?

I have this problem with my 27,000 mile, 14 month old car. I am not sure it is caused by getting in, as I am careful to not rub the edge of the bolster. Mine appears to have a sharp point inside where the wear is. Does yours?

Had the same problem at 10 months. They replaced the cover and the foam. you need both. Now when I get in or out I move the seat back so I don't even come close to the edge of the bolster.

Yes I can feel the metal frame. It's like there is no foam in the area. The pass. Seat seem to be ok in that area

That should be taken care of under warranty.

I had the same problem with my C5. and feel that even with the seat back on my C6 that that same point is taking a lot of abrasion as I get in and out. I think the bolster sticks out (forward) too much like a wing and gets in the way. I'm thinking of getting seat covers. Anyone know of C6 seat covers?

Default Seat

I'm the second owner but the first one that had the 2005 only 6 months had something done to both front seats as I saw it on the warranty work Chevy did. may be the same thing but was a warranty item due to a new vehicle. I will tell you not for all but I'm waiting to see what Igee does with the seat covers they sent me as far as correcting the issues. Not tight enough as they said and a couple workmanship issues. They claim they will fix and free shiiping back but no refund. I have Cashmere seats and want the center to be black and the outside to be cashmere kinda like the dash. They will protect the leather too. They looked nice when first putting on but not as tight as they said. The match was great. Anyway I will see in a week to 10 days. I'm stuck now anyway cause no refund but worst case if they dont make it right I will have my credit card company fix that issue with all the pics, email etc I'm keeping just in case.

I am very surprised that they would touch a wear item under warranty. With maybe 5k or something for mileage I could see it but not with 20k something.

If the wear is because of an obvious defect, like no padding between the leather and the metal frame, then it's a manufacturing defect, not a wear issue.

If there were no apparant reason for the wear, then the owner would most likely be SOL.

Had the same problem with Igee on a set of covers for my 06 1LT with standard seats. Backs gapped almost 3" and I had no need for the velcro airbag sides. Reworked covers arrived today....Got rid of the velcro panel and have one zipper in the back. Very tight fit, may be too tight....covers were cold, so I'm letting them warm up over night and will fit tromorrow.

Stock Corvette leather is not much better then a medium grade vinyl.....you get what you pay for...overall the C6 is great value !!

I've seen a seat repair where they installer put burlap over the metal hardware, installed new foam, then put felt or thin foam over the factory foam, and finally new non-GM leather seat covers. This seems like the only right way to do this since GM keeps giving us the least durable seats in the GM lineup.

Looks like another C5 "feature" made it into the C6. On the C5 it was called "Premature Bolster Wear" and there was a TSB published. But us cleaver C5 guys found a better solution. Take a look:

Some scrap door edge protector stuff

Followed by some upholstery quality felt booties

Having owned 2 C5's I won't be surprised when things go wrong, I'm sure a fix has already been created with many years and miles of R&D. I'd suggest asking C5 owners if they experience a particular problem, no sense reinventing the wheel.

Only NORMAL wear items are not covered under warranty. A seat wear issue at 20K is not normal and you will have no problem getting it covered.

There was a problem with either the design or material, but on the C5's it was covered until the 36/36 warranty expired. I bought my 99 in 01 and a month before the warranty expired I complained. They replaced the seat foam and installed the new and improved hides (covers).

The seat looked brand new with I sold the car in 04.

Well I tried to get one covered under warranty and they pretty much laughed at me. I called GM on it and they said sorry about your luck. Car had 28k on the clock. This was my 2001 C5.
