Well here is an update for all. I went by the dealership and they had the whole back end out of the car. The differential case was completely split!!! The back half of the case had seperated and lodged itself up against the mufflers. The mufflers were the only thing holding the diff case piece on the car. Every tooth on the pinion gears and the ring gears were intact. The shaft coming out of the tranny had all of it splines. Now I am just waiting to find out if GM is going to replace the entire unit (I hope) or just the case and reuse the gears. I'm slightly worried if they use the gears again, because who knows what kind of microscopic cracks could be in there. Obviously this thing is going to need an alignment job after this too. And yes my previous worries about the warranty have been alleviated. It's all being covered.
For the most part, the people with 05 C6's reported that when they had rear end damage the replacement part was the up-graded 06 C6 rear end assembly!!
I would ask them what their intentions are. Hell it's your car! They should give you an accurate answer and explanation as to what and why there doing what they intend to do. Is there a TSB on this issue???? That should lay out what options the dealer has as to repair of the problem.
for some reason I can't see anymore replies to this thread??? Hopefully other people can still see it. I can't even see my last post about the update of how the car is doing. WEIRD!
Update for anyone still interested. It all turned out fine, the rear was replaced with a brand new unit (05 vs 06 due to the 06 bolt pattern being different than the 05's) It works fine now. They accidentally cracked the passenger side running board, but fixed it and repainted the area. These guys have been very nice and very helpful. They don't quite understand everything about vettes, but with my help they are learning. I've had the car in the shop a few more times for the fuel service issue, the nav system issue, and will be taking it in soon for the a-pillar interior material delaminating.
I almost forgot. I couldn't post any updates due to for some strange reason I couldn't see any replies going up on this thread after the second page. It was really weird. Sorry for the long delay.
If they find out that this happened at the track it is NOT covered.
Come on, either this didnt happen or your just too cautious. The dealer wont even ask.
The speed and rpms can be downloaded at the tranny. The GM guys are really interested in seeing what made there product break. These cars are tested at 2x tolerance.

So, either you have pics, or I call this
I do not have any pictures but I can guarantee my C6 split the case completely in half on a first to second shift. This was on the runflats. The 05 has some issues that were addressed on the 06's. I think it is a sad state of affairs when you can't take one of these cars to the track on street tires without fear of breaking the rearend. I bought my car for recreation and a little track time is part of the package for me. I truly feel short changed after giving this kind of money for a car with these kind of problems.

Nope you're right. I made the whole thing up. What are you nuts? Your reply makes no sense really. Please explain what you meant by this.
Also prove you can download your RPM's and speed at the tranny or I will have to call
The 05 rear ends are weaker than other models. It is a fact. The 06's were strengthened by the improved bolt pattern and a beefed up case. The new bolt pattern was not only to make it stronger, but to facilitate the A6 tranny bolting up to the rear. So it made it cheaper to have one pattern to fit all trannys.
Oh and give me a way to post pics, and I will show you the pics I took of my blown rear end.
And by the way, Mr. , the words you were looking for were "you're" (ie a contraction meaning "you are") and "their" (meaning the possesive form of they).
I still believe that the 05 rears were not bad but there was a bad batch.
I have many passes on my 05 rear with tremendous wheel hop, even a few burnouts with wheel hop and all is well. Maybe they were mounted/torqued incorrectly, who knows.

CYA I hope you are correct, but I have been reluctant to test your theory after my car set at the dealer over two weeks to get the rear end replaced. Is your car a 6-speed?
I have an 05 Z51 Automatic and the rear end came apart pulling out of a parking lot. No way was I doing more than 1500 RMP. The car was towed to a local dealer and GM has basically impounded the car for more than three weeks and will not give me or the dealer any answers. If they treat a daily driver this way heaven help you if something like this happened at a track. GM told me and the dealer that we would hear from them when we heard from them. Nice, makes me wonder!
Tell them to give your car back or have it sent to another dealer. It's your car. They can't hold it hostage. It's that simple. Or demand answers from them. If the dealer won't help, then go higher. Don't stop until your questions have been completely satisfied or you reach the top of GM.

Yucon, at that point I believe I might have to ask them if they would like to own my corvette again. At least when mine was setting it was a parts issue.
