Being the first year anything has nothing to do with quality. As years change they may add things maybe even quality hmmm. Yes there may be a couple things learned but not a 12 item laundry list. You have a possible lemon especially if they re-occur.

I have an 04 Acura TL (first year major change just like the Vette) and only issue was a dead battery after 28 months. Replaced under warranty. The difference in my Acura and my Vette (had no issues yet on the Vette) is quality craftsmanship. Seldom do you see a TL requiring service. Not a sport car but the V6 operates at 11:1 comp and red line up at 7000rpm so that power train with an A5 operates quite well and can manually shift the A5.

So all the 2005 bashers that claim our 05's suck, that don't have this or that, bla bla bla are just not well informed or have not researched enough. There are lemons out there, thus the lemon law. Whom ever's saying "Quality is Job One" if it applies to GM, they need to re-think a better slogan.

My Z51 MZ6 was built in Sept '04, VIN 04251, 19K miles.

Issues/Problems:

a. Had roof reglued under recall, still squeeks some, may take back.
b. Did the NAV/MP3 update myself after dealer wouldn't because the head unit was the earlier version, and wasn't supposed to work if updated. Took the chance and updated myself, and it works fine, plays MP3s great. Also downloaded the VER 3 NAV update (BIG file) and installed, .
c. When I purchased the car (had 3k miles on it), I asked local Northridge Chev dealer to do the pulley/bolt TSB on the car and he refused, said it had to be loose first. Well, it came off at a very inopportune time some 6 months later (won't go into the details, but the engine got very hot, very fast). Fixed under warranty, but collateral damage to timing sensor pick-up caused it to fail a few weeks later, and now the water pump just went (now in the shop being replaced under warranty) also from collateral damage when pulley originally came off. Had the dealer just replaced the bolt when I asked, it would have saved GM and myself a lot of money (GM), time (GM and me) , and frustration (me) .
d. Battery died last summer for no particular reason other than low usage, replaced with Optima Red Top. Never had a DBS issue.
e. Hatch release failed early on and was replaced.

Brakes never squealed, but replaced them with C6 Z06 brakes and Stop Tech SS lines . Other mods are Vararam CAI and MAF Spacer, Z06 shocks and rear sway, ACE Z06 wheels and BFG tires, and Motul RBF 600 DOT 4 Fluid in brakes and clutch master.

Other than the pulley issue, the car has been a great machine. Ill take it anywhere, anytime with no worries .

I took delivery on my 05 September of 04 and have about 27,000 miles on it. I have experienced just a couple minor problems (fuel door actuator, steering wheel sensor). Both easy warranty fixes. Mine is an everyday driver and I enjoy driving it as much as the 1st day I drove it.

Thinking about ordering a Z06 but really am having trouble parting with my 05. I like being able to remove the top and I keep it off most of the time.

Default Back in the shop

dropped it off this morning for another round of repairs. With any luck the following will be addressed during this visit:

1. belt squeal associated with loose harmonic ballancer (3rd time in for this)
2. trunk hydraulics will not support the trunk lid any more
3. Nav. DVD will not eject (but it will play MP3s now)
4. vinyl on glove box tearing
5. clutch pedal return at high RPMs
6. Brake squeal (was told they will look at them but doubtful they can do anything)

Now GM is making the dealer have me initial each item on the service request; my service rep tells me GM is suspicious that repairs are being made by the dealer for possible issues I may not even know or care about and they otherwise would not have to cover. I was also told that if the dealer sees something wrong (e.g. fluid leak) they can't go ahead and fix it unless I tell them to and they are not allowed to bring it to my attention. Glad to know that customer satisfaction is such a high priority; I am thinking there will be no JD Power award to GM for this

The bright side of all of this; my service advisor and the tech who works on the car are great! They have been super helpful and are very pleasnt to speak with.

I have a LeMans Blue 2005 F55 Corvette and I have had a few issues. I had an oil leak from the engine, however this was due to a dry-rotted seal from being in my garage fro a year and change while I was in Iraq. The other issue I had was severe. My left rear axl snapped and jammed my diff and tranny. GM says is was due to a ball bearing failure. I drive my vette almost everyday ( I can do that hear at FT Hood cause the weather is usually clear). I love my car and definitly call it my baby. I put Corsa touring cat back exhaust on it and I am looking to put a cold air induction and new MAF sensor on it as well.

Got a call from the shop; apparenlty item5 requires a new clutch be installed; there's only 16K miles on it. This means they will have the car until next Tuesday now.

Also, they are having a hard time figuring out what is causing the belt squeal. So far they've replaced the harmonic balancer, tensioner and both belts (twice).

Since it is going to be there a few more days I told them to go ahead and service the fuel injector system too.

Well I just got the car back and it is going back on Sat. Service advisor misunderstood my issue with trunk and did not replace hydraulics.

Did get new Nav system, clutch, fly wheel, glove box, and alternator installed.

I have to say the clutch feels tremendously better.

Current theroy on the belt squeal is that the fan in the alternator was slipping and making the noise; apparently this is not uncommon in the ZO6 but I have not researched the topic. I got stuck in rush hour traffic bringing the car home so I will have to take it back out later to see if the belt squeal is fixed.

The biggest issue has to do with the rear diffs cracking from poor thin design. The good news is that you can transplant a C5 rear for the strongest of all C6 set-ups. Non of the other C6 years will accept the C5 diff without swaping the rear transmission case.

The saga never seems to end.

I had the car at the shop again today and asked the service tech to take a look at the steering rack; there appears to be some fluid staining on top of it. Sure enough there is a leak and it has to be replaced. Part was orderd but don't know when it will come in.

Ironically, the rear end started to chatter today so I will have them address that when it's in for the steering rack.

Lastly, the service tech noted that their system is showing I have not had the roof replacement recall taken care of. I said the replaced it with the SMC roof in Nov. and he told me that there is now a recall on the SMC roof. This would explain the recall notice I got in the mail last weekend.

I am going to have to do some research on the SMC roof recall; it took forever for them to get the paint to match on this replacemnt roof and I don't want to go through that again.

wow, sorry for your troubles. It seems that some cars just go that way somehow, and others are nearly perfect. Unreal if you think about it, considering all the parts come together.

At 22k miles, I had my first issue last week with a broken clutch pedal assist spring. Covered under warranty, even though the car is modded.

My '05 Z-51 coupe has been pretty good to me. I've had some of the known problems addressed during the 13,000 miles I've put on the car so far. My car was built in January of '05 and this is what I've had done.

Adhesive applied to the roof as per recall: Everything fine, no rattles or groans either before or after the procedure.

MP3 update: I did the update myself on my NAV radio and it has played MP3's perfectly from the minute I poped the first MP3 disc in the slot.

Changed the rear diff fluid: I did have the crunching sounds when making tight turns. Once the dealer changed the fluid, the noise stopped and has not returned after 6 months so far.

Service Active Handling: I got this message on the DIC so I took the car to the dealer. They completed the repair procedure as per the TSB and I've not had the problem again since.

That's it for me.

I've got 40k on my early 2005 now.

At 500 miles the oil level sensor failed. This wasn't surprising, just infant mortality. Replaced.

At 2,000 miles the driver's side "DRL" failed. Since this is actually a turn signal bulb, which isn't designed to burn continuously, it wasn't a big surprise. What was a surprise was when I went to replace it I noticed no bulb grease had been used. This makes a bulb run hotter, and fail quicker. So when I replaced the bulb, I greased it, and pulled and greased the other bulbs too. No more bulb failures. I do make a point of manually turning off the "DRLs" when I start the car. Those bulbs really aren't designed to burn continuously.

At about 5,000 miles I noticed a belt squeal. The harmonic dampener had backed out the crank bolt due to inertia loading during deceleration. There was no key to prevent it from spinning. I drilled and pinned the dampener with a "dutchman" key. Replaced the stretch to yield crank bolt. No more problems.

Around 8,000 miles I did the Nav MP3 update. Works fine.

About a half a dozen times I've had to disassemble and clean the rear hatch release button to get it to work.

The gas filler door wouldn't stay closed. I ground down a nickel and fastened it to the catch on the door. This spacer allowed the solenoid plunger to catch and hold the door. (Plunger was fine, the door had warped.)

"Service Active Handling" message appeared on the DIC. I popped off the lower dash valence and cinched the connectors and secured them with wire ties. No more problems.

Other than some clicking and popping from the roof, and two flat tires, that's been the extent of the issues with the car.

The previous owner (6 mos prior) to me had issues about 8-10 but after that no issues. I feel your pain if I had that many myself I doubt I would have the Vette as that is crap with a capitol "C"
