Seriously, 12 documented failures in the Z06 section, 4 at my dealer out of 13 or so cars sold (that was back in May 06), and two more I personally know of, including the very Z06 I was to drive at Spring Mtn. earlier that same day.

Sorry, but that is just not the kind of operating record I want in a crate engine or, for that matter, any engine. I just wish GM would do right by this because it impacts the whole corvette hobby and car values. Maybe they could follow BMW's lead and offer 7/100 warranties to Z06 owners. Seems only fair.
Sorry for your engine problems.

Are you going to become a charter at SM?

Its a nice place to be.

Todd:

That is a real shame. Seems that A&A might offer to take a look and see if they can assist with your recovery efforts.

Probably, in a different kind of way. I decided 2 years ago to stop tracking my street cars and got myself a Formula Mazda, then a shifter kart. These keep me busy on fridays and weekends. The day the Z06 failed, John Morris offered me a ride in a Radical SR3 and I became hooked. So I sold my Formula Mazda and got me a Radical, which I keep there for the time being. It was a lot of coin, but worth every penny.

BTW, the engine failures are not mine. I am a happy Z51 C6 owner and I daresay the car runs like a raped ape after Sean at OCC took care of me.

i would say the low coolant levels where a sign of things going wrong. coolant chamber is a bad thing!!!!! i agree i wouldn't use the ls7 in this application. the 6.2 is a good choice here but i will wait until the lsx is availible ina aluminum version

Low fluids anywhere can equal disaster. Many people do not realize that fluids are very critical to a properly operating car. You don't get many chances and low fluids have to be caught early. Gasoline is about the only one that does not destroy a car, it justs stops running until you replace it!

As for modding an engine, the boring, stroking, milling, etc. change the engine quite drastically and then you add a booster to it - supercharger which can easily be varied in pressure when you are nearing the edge to begin with. If you get some basic books on the effects of these changes and you compound these changes by adding and varying additional mods, things can really add up quickly. I think some of the tuners are really flying by the seat of their pants, just experimenting and not really crunching the numbers. That is why many want you to sign waivers, a good thing is to go to the well known and proven shop such as LF and Callaway. I know it cost more but it works and does not blowup.

I went into a turner shop in Ft. Worth, TX, and he showed me around all of his fancy equipment. I really got an eyeopener when I asked him about rocker arms, I asked about roller tip on on rockers and he showed me what they used and they had only nettle bearing on the rocker shaft and an anvil on the tip. He didn't know what I was talking about when I showed him on his rocker where the roller on the tip would be. He had newer heard or seen a roller tip rocker. I have totally lost all respect for him and his shop, and this was the owner and he claims he teaches classes at times. I like to go to bookstores and libraries and brush up on my basics even thought I am a very detailed techie to make sure what I am being told is accurate. It is amazing what you can be told, similiar to a car dealer!

Sorry to hear about your engine. Listen about all the comments and your will come up with a good concenses on the ideas. Don't get hasty and make a mistake. You are the one who ultimately losses. Good Luck!

Any suggestions before I begin rebuild ....

Sorry dude....That's a bummer.... Good luck with it.....

On a side note.....Consider one of our rears....The HOLY COW 4.10 HD REAR END.....

I guarantee it will solve the "low end torque" problem that plagues the S/C cars.....

Here's a link to an example....

Chuck,

Thanks for the input. Andy's crew is on their way up from SoCal to pick up my car. Looks like I'm headed down the path of a 402/headers/cam but I'll take a look at the rear end as another option.
