Default C7 with 700 hp

Motor Trend's May issue (p. 19) says the 2010 C7 Corvette will have 700 hp with a V-8 engine and rear drive. This Z06/Blue Devil successor will also be naturally aspirated.

Makes me wonder what the top speed will be, as well as 0-60. I would also guess that by 2010, the price will be soaring close to six digits. Maybe not.

Possible, but highly unlikely IMO.

Um...I highly doubt it. Do you honestly think a car company, more importantly the insurance companies, are going to allow mass production of 700hp vehicles and have them sold to the general public? I'm telling you the current horsepower war doesn't have much longer to live. I'm not saying power ratings will start dropping but they are definately going to level off soon.

Special versions (i.e. SS) might have 700HP, but I doubt the base and Z51 C7 versions will be near that and more than likely near the 2009/2009 C6 versions. If the Z06 is continued it will be in the middle of the ratings.

I also think itl only go so far. for one when insurance companies want the same for insurance as your paying a car note. people just wont buy them...its better off i think. haveing the car 20-30 grand cheaper 2-300 hp less and for 5-10 grand make up the power myself and keep my insurance down....

Although with 600hp Vipers and potential 650hp Blue Devil Corvettes on the horizon one would think otherwise LOL.

Motor Trend magazine got the information from GM's VP of global product development, Jim Queen. It was Queen who said the Z06/Blue Devil successor would have 700 hp. "We're working hard to get that power onto the pavement," Queen said in the article. Adding weight and optimizing weight distribution are the keys.

It's not a 700 hp Corvette that would worry me if I were an insurance company underwriter. (And I worked for an automobile insurance company for eight years.) It's the 6,000 pound SUVs and pickup trucks that worry me because they are getting more and more horsepower and require almost 200 feet to stop when traveling at 60 mph. Around here, some have bumpers that are 3.5 feet above the road surface.

Default 700 Hp

i got the 05-C6 when it first came out and stopped at 118 mph. I got a 06-C6 and quit when I got to 128 mph, yes those crazy 8's. I think this is plenty fast for a 60 year old with 14 grandkids. I would go 148 if i could find a place without cops cause my insurance would go sky high.

My guess for the C7 would be 500hp for the base engine based on C4 thru C6 hp progression. 600+ for C7 Z06. Unless Al Gore gets in office then we may be back at 200.

You realize there's a section of the forum devoted to the Blue Devil, right?

1. C7 is not coming out until 2011 for the 2012 year

2. Their will be so much TC, TQ managment that no matter how many ponies a car has, it wont matter.

"...the Z06/Blue Devil successor would have 700 hp..." this does not refer to the 'base' C7 or the Z51 optioned C7...only to a small, highly specialized production run vehicle.

Those big SUVs may worry you when you're driving your lightweight C6 but if I'm in an accident...I want to be in my 3/4 ton, 496 cu in, 4x4 Suburban. Those large SUVs are statistically the safest vehicle when it comes to accidents.

Statistically safer in collisions with other cars but they have a higher accident rate in single car incidents from rollovers and inability to avoid collisions.

If Al Gore were Prez right now, we'd be walking in the 7th century...just like the Taliban.

Default Rumor??

I looked on Motor Trend's website and they have nothing about a 700 hp Corvette. I found a website that says the GM exec didn't say 700 hp and that the MT writer came up with that figure.

The website is at: http://automotiveauthority.wordpress...f-700hp-false/
Their story says:

Rumors were surrounding the Auto world today when Motor Trend reported that Jim McQueen at GM said that the C7 would have 700hp when it arrived to challenge the upcoming Viper. Well Motor Trend put its foot in its mouth when Autoblog reported that:

After conferring with Motor Trend and finding the original source, it?s clear that GM?s Jim McQueen did NOT say the C7 Corvette will produce up to 700 hp. The original article?s author, MT?s Paul Horrell, merely extrapolated on his own and made an educated guess that the C7 might produce that much power, probably considering that the C6 SS would already be producing in the neighborhood of 600 horsepower. The stuff about no all-wheel drive and maintaining a unique platform still stands, though.

While we think that the C7 is going to be a contender when it arrives we haven?t even seen the C6 Blue Devil/SS final numbers to make an educated guess as to what the C7 (which is years down the road) might have. Good way to get some publicity Motor Trend, just the wrong kind.
