Default Z06 sway bars

'05 A4 vert w/ softride , 1/4" tunnel plate.

Reason for mod: hopefully get more responsive $ controlled turns.

What dynamics should I expect with just rear changed to Z06 bar? And how much more would the front add? Car is DD and used exclusively for city/highway (no track.)

Buy a pair of Z51 cars and you will be happy. If you put a Z06 bar on the back and do nothing to the front, the car will be tail happy, so just buy a Z51 front and rear bar and be done with it.

OK - I'll do the full set.

Then - what would be the difference between Z06 and a Z51 bars, as applied to my vert?

The rear Z06 bar is bigger than a Z51 bar because the tires are bigger and have more grip. The front bar on the Z06 and Z51 are the same.

If you buy the Z51 sway bars you will have a firmer, more solid ride and suffer from a BUNCH of understeer. If you go further and change to the Z06 bars, the ride will be even firmer and very tight. You will have a tiny bit of oversteer that you can control with your right foot.

I just did this. I first went to Z51 bars and then to Z06. I'm staying with Z06.

I didn't suffer any 'issues' with Z06 anti-sway bars...on the street or running a road course. They work well on my car.

+2 - the front z51 bar is the same as the Z06. Wider tires will not help the oversteer.

If you plan on doing a wide body, then get the Z06 bars. Otherwise stay with the Z51 bars.

Does everyone agree that using Z51 bars will result in "a BUNCH of understeer"?

No. The give less understeer than the base/F55 bars.

Try the Z51 bars front and rear, if that isn't what you want, it's not much more money to replace the rear Z51 with a Z06

OK, everyone here with a base or F55 suspension that has raced with the stock, Z51 and Z06 swaybars, all on the same car, raise your hand.

If you haven't done this yourself and you're just repeating what you read elsewhere, you're not doing anyone any favors. If you have first hand knowledge of upgrading the base or F55 suspension to the Z51 swaybars, please tell us how it handles when you push hard in a turn.

You did this yourself? You have a base or F55 and you added the Z51 swaybars?

Right, I and a few hundred others have done it. It's an easy very worthwhile mod. I added mine to an F55. I had the bars before I got the car.

It makes the steering more neutral but still has a bit of understeer.

Try it. it's only about $80/bar if you buy from a forum dealer like Gene Culley and install them yourself.

Did it. I have an F55 and installed Z51 bars at about 500 miles. Got more understeer. Changed to Z06 rear bar (thanks Gene) and solved the understeer. Much faster now.

Thanks for the suggestions/opinions.

I'll talk to my tuner, who will end up doing the install since I have no garage/tools. He'll have the experience to make the distinction between the two.

Got ZO6 bars on my F55. Stiffer ride-yes. Not obnoxious, but noticable. Oversteer? maybe a little. (Bigger rubber fixes that.) Cornering is dead flat in Sport mode, Very little lean in Tour mode. The ZO6 sway's made a big difference Auto -Xing. Hope this helps.
