Default Normal Times C6

Need help on trying to figure out what is the average 1/4 mile times for my C6 GS Corvette. I have the following parts on my ride. A/A Si Supercharger & Longtube headers 1 7/8in, the rest is bone stock. I do have methanol but the car hasn't been tuned for it so I disconnected it for my runs. My first 3 runs were (1) 15+ sec 1/4, (2) 14.29, (3) 13.63 eventually I started getting into the 11's. My best run was as follows:

reaction: 1.3
60ft: 2.13
330ft: 5.41
1/8 ET: 7.96
1/8 MPH: 100.02
1/4 ET:11.86
1/4 MPH: 131.23

My biggest challenge right now is the launch once the car hooks it runs like a scalded dog. My tires were stock on 32psi I eventually dropped it down to 22 psi but my numbers didn't get any better as I had a lot of wheel hop that I was trying to fight through (let off the gas) until it stopped. If some one can provide what should be my average run on this slightly modified engine. I just want to know if I'm a bad or terrible driver.

It’s not you, it’s your tires. You must get drag radials if you want to use this car at the drag strip, if you keep letting it wheel hop you risk breaking your rear end and transmission and that’s expensive!

If you really want to try and learn on stock tires (I don’t recommend it, it’s much easier to learn on drag radials) check out this website.

It helped many of us.

Default Driver Mod Needed

11' GS Conv Manual 85k miles
Bullet Exhaust, MGW (that's it)
Michelin Pilot's
386whp

Right lane #8. Had trouble with burnout. When I did a decent burnout didn't seem to help. Had some wheel hop as well. Has been 14 years since I was down a track and that was with a Mitsu Evo. Much easier to drive.

I would have liked to get into the 12's but on these tires not sure I could. MPH seems kinda low, was expecting 110-112. Then again not even sure if I ran it all the way through the big end. Next time I will be less nervous.

Considering the great traction I'm not sure why but I couldn't get below a 2 second 60' on any of my runs. Not a single bit of wheel spin all day. The all seasons did pretty good. This was the second of 3 back to back to back passes after cooling down from my first couple runs.

PS: This was my first day ever running down the strip. I'll be back at the next test and tune for sure!

I plan on taking my car to the track tomorrow and posting a time slip, but im a total drag racing noob.

My car is a stock '12 GS with the 6MT. So I have a few questions:
-What RPM to launch it from?
-What RPM to shift gears at? Peak HP is at 5900 rpm I believe.
-Do i go into 4th towards the end or wring out 3rd?

Thank you very much for the input in advance.

Thank you for he link. It's very informative. But it doesnt mention the LS3 motor. I'll assume shift points should be similar.

Also, I've been on the track only once before in my life, and it was last year with this same car. Did 2 passes. First time i got wayyy too much wheelspin on the launch and ran almost a 14sec time. On the second run i never got into 4th, kept it in 3rd and ran a 13.5.

So yes, I need all the help i can get.

All the tips in that post will help you, the ls3 has similar torque band as ls7 just a bit lower.

It’s much more fun if you get drag radials. They make it a lot easier it’s a fun habit! Just get out and do it. One word of advice if you go sideways or start to wheel hop just let out. It will help you regain control. Again drag radials help prevent both.

do agree ., and drag radials do make much funner and better starts obsvously yet there’s something to be said about a true street tire launch and technique ., adding to that I completely gave up on my c5z with f1s yet when I got into GS and ls7 cars they do a lot better with oem tires then the older ones

ps to centinennial ., your 1st gear is a 2.97 (which makes 2nd and 3rd come sooner in this transmission gearing) you will for sure need to grab 4th .,if you were a ls7 car for instance where 3rd is deeper especially with 20” wheels then you could ride out 3rd since also ls7 rev limiter is higher .,
