To what I refer to as a "monster" tune is one that gives you plenty of seat of the pants go but with traction issues. It was not meant to disparage or meant to be unfriendly to the person I was posting to. I also have no clue as to who did his tune. Thanks for playing moderator, anyways.

I cant see going with those monster tunes if the car is no longer tractable on the track or street....unless you see going sideways as good times and fun. I know another guy on the CF who got a "monster" tune and is going sideways as well. He wanted to add some Nitto's in hopes of gaining some traction.
A very well known and trusted tuner did my tune in the Tampa FL area.

I would love to see a tune that gives nice gains without breaking the tires loose or going sideways.

You would think more power and ft lbs is going to make any car go sideways. You must know something the top known tuners don't know.

I dont profess to know what the top known tuners do. I have had some pay for e-mail tunes by forum tuners (I provided my current tune and scanned logs) and they actually made my car go slower proved by scan and log times. I have a pretty good idea what these tuners do regarding TM etc. etc. and I really dont do too much of that. In fact, the only tranny stuff I have done was disable Torque reduction "upshifts" which makes for quicker shifts at WOT. It made my car go much faster in the 1/4 mile. Sometimes, I think, more is not better and "mild" is better than "monster". I would be very curious to see a tune in your car that made provisions for your headers in terms of fuel and timing and get rid of whatever else. See how driveable it then becomes. I know some guys (like Glennhl) who never had a "pro" tune and/or any tune with the same mods we have (including headers) and they have no traction issues and still go like stink. They got lots more than stock HP and TQ. Its all proven by verified 1/4 mile times here. That says something to me.

and further add it gets evaluated in the race application it is intended for. A road race suspension isnt going to be liked on a drag track, and people shouldnt impose thier sole application to another product. Street cars will likely benefit from road race applications. I think drag guys have a different set of criteria. When a corvette cant do a 1g turn, I think it stopped being part of what it was made for.

I stand by the idea that it is impossible to take two sets of long tube headers to the drag strip and get definate results that prove outside a margin of error that one header is better than another. Things like how much gas is in the car, wheel spin, wind, driver error, a big fart before you stage..you name it. I don't care how methodical you are are about it...there are way too many variables.

If someone beleives they are gonna take a Kooks header off, and put on any other same primary diameter header and consistantly gain 5 tenths plus...or 5 plus MPH (what I would consider outside the margin of error at the track)...give me a call because I have some shiny beads to also sell you. The only exception would be if one header is not up to the task to begin with.

This thread has taught me more than I ever needed to know about headers!

Great job to those that contributed.
