Default Cast Wheels

Is there anything wrong with cast wheels on a street car?

I'm in the budgeting stage for my purchase and project options. While forged wheels would certainly be nice, they seem to be 3 to 4 times the cost of cast wheels.

I like the looks of the Factory Reproduction black Z06 Motor Sports wheel. Does anyone know of any quality issues with this particular brand of cast wheel? Are there better choices for cast wheels? I'm I correct that forged wheels (Forgeline, Cray, CCW) will be 3 to 4 times more expensive than cast wheels?

Thanks.

Chris

cast wheels are heavy, cheap and usually from China. Will they roll yes do they meet DOT specs? They are supposed to.

what were the price on the cast what were the prices on the CCW?

Chris,
As I understand the issue of wheel strength vs. weight, a properly forged wheel can be as strong as a cast wheel with less mass and weight. Cast wheels can be as strong as forged wheels, but will require more mass and are therefore heavier. The stock Corvette wheels are "Spun Pressure Cast" aluminum (whatever that means) and are lighter than cast wheels but heavier than forged. I believe that GM has designed the stock wheels to meet the strength requirements needed to safely operate the car in stock configuration (including HPDE track days). The LeMans Corvettes use an aftermarket forged wheel because of weight and additional strength. Perhaps you already know all this, if so, sorry for wasting bandwith. I'm not aware of anyone doing independent testing of aftermarket cast wheels, but I bet there are many folks who would be interested to see comparative testing results.
be well,
Don

Looks like Factory Reproduction cast wheels can be had for approximately $1,200 in the appropriate size (C6 with a Z06 rear widebody).

Cray wheels are actually cast and the Cray Scorpions in black go for approx. $1700.

Forgeline (forged) appear to go for approximately $1,000 for EACH tire.

I have't contacted CCW yet.

Is there any other happy medium for a street car? Maybe it would be best to simply get OEM Z06 wheels? Goal is to find decent quality blacked out wheels that will accomodate Z06 size tires (maybe even larger 19 front & 20 rear).

Of course we have our LG W.C. wheels now on sale, and they are built using the factory cast method. We have these in polished and factory Comp Grey centers in stock. We can also powder coat or chrome these if you have another color that you would like.

I have a little sale going on with the ForgeLine wheels, and depending on how you finish the wheel, and the size you want to go with it can add up but they are a lot lighter than most of the other wheels out there. Not only that they give you 100 more options on finishing.
