I know the people over on the Diablosport forum are not very fond of Shell. If you have issues with Knock Retard the first thing they ask you is if you are running Shell gas.
Everytime you use Citgo you are supporting the Anti-USA Venezuelan government, aka Chavez! It is a Venzuelan owned company. Same as a few other lower cost off-brands like UGas, Westar, and a couple others I can't recal.
So is Shell, which happens to be on the list of top tier gasolines using extreme cleaning agents. (Techron)
Chavez doesn't seem to be anti USA, seeing as how he arranged for free home heating oil for the USA last year.
He is anti Bush, but so am I and about 70% of the USA population.
Chevron 91 octane here in Cali feels like 93-95 octane. Others make mine sound like a popcorn machine going up a hill in a higher gear. Techron is my little buddy!
A while back, in the Washington Post, Click n Clack the Car Talk guys from Boston claimed that only a few brands of gasoline met the standards of some international standards kinda group. The only major American brand that met those standards that I ever heard of was Shell. I've been using both Shell and Sunoco because they are handy and see no diff that I can tell. The Guys seemed to think there wasn't much difference an any brands except for that purity standard mentioned above.

That's why I quit buying Bush's baked beans.

BWAhahaha... good one.I love America, but we are not exempt from international bullying. All of the bashers/haters need to drop this silly BS and get your energy where you feel best about your purchase.
Back on thread subject:
Old buddy, who is an Alabama gasoline distributor, verified long ago that the fuel depot is where everyone gets their gasoline and additives happen at station level.
Best advice is buy from a newer station (newer underground tanks) and add a bottle of Techron every couple of months.
For years there has been a rumor that virtually all gasoline comes from the same refinery. If your market area has an Exxon refinery and you pull into another brand station your likely getting Exxon.
I'm pretty sure there is some truth to this with convenience store brands, I'm not sure about Major brands.
They all seem to be serviced by unmarked trucks in our area. The pipeline terminal serving Central Arkansas has several unmarked storage tanks. I suppose they could offload Exxon into Exxon Leased Tanks and then send a pig through before off loading another brand. Possibly that is where the rumor got started.
Are there any gasoline distributors out there that know for sure?

At least I got a couple of answers on the difference in brands of gasoline. It appears few members are willing to give up their brand. So I did futher research and the best info I was able to find was.
All brands come from the same refinerys, It may be Exxon, Shell. BP or whatever. Specific brands do add additives, as little as 1 quart per 8000 gallon tanker. This is done at the terminal not the refinery where the gas is not specifically labeled.
So if the distributor remembered to put Exxon additive in the tanker that loaded today you might get "Exxon". If the driver drop loaded 1/2 the tankers load at a convenience store you might also get Exxon at a Quick Check. Or they might have neglected to put in any additive at all.

Wow so after all that where the hell do I go for gas ?????????????
I use stations that support top tier gasoline like Texaco and Shell and put 93 octane in the tank. If GM supports top tier gas and sez it reduces carbon buildup significantly and reduces wear then that's what I am using. There is a TSB from GM to all dealers about this. The only "win" for GM is potentially lower warranty and longer lasting engines. There is no conspiracy with GM and the oil companies.
Before I got to the second page I thought I was the only person using Chevron anymore! I've never gotten a bad tank of gas out of a chevron station. I'll use Shell or Exxon/Mobil if I need to though. For some reason I've always avoided Texaco even though it's pretty much the same as Chevron...maybe because I got a really bad tank of gas at a Citgo one time and the black and red logo similarity bothers me, lol Although my Chevron station on the way home was one of many around here that got caught mis-metering fuel to their advantage....As if it didn't cost ENOUGH to get gas anymore a bunch of our stations got caught doing that.
