Over the years all my race cars always used Sunoco 94
You cant find it anymore God only knows what it would cost.
So what gas do you use and why? I know we use 93 octane
but sunoco, exon, hess etc....
Major Brand 93 Octane - Normally SUNOCO where I am (it is across the street). Exxon, Mobile, BP/AMOCO, Texaco, Shell..... Actually, I now look for BP/Amoco since with my BP Visa I get a 5% rebate - it can add up.
San Diego county limits octane to 91. The top-tier vendors I trust the most are Exxon and Shell. Of these, I prefer Exxon because of the additive cocktail... mmmmmm.
For years there has been a rumor that virtually all gasoline comes from the same refinery. If your market area has an Exxon refinery and you pull into another brand station your likely getting Exxon.
I'm pretty sure there is some truth to this with convenience store brands, I'm not sure about Major brands.
They all seem to be serviced by unmarked trucks in our area. The pipeline terminal serving Central Arkansas has several unmarked storage tanks. I suppose they could offload Exxon into Exxon Leased Tanks and then send a pig through before off loading another brand. Possibly that is where the rumor got started.
Are there any gasoline distributors out there that know for sure?

i couldnt get bp amoco the night before the rental they were closed, was on dead empty low fuel for miles had to get citco so i had pure citco i only bought 10 dollars worth went home, on the way to the track i got 6 dollars more went a 11.09 and low fuel light was on for 2 runs already, so i drove 8 miles to sunco got 2 gallons drove back and ran 10.92 so the first runs were citco part sunoco the last runs all faster were almost pure sunoco 93

There's a list on the forums somewhere of what gasolines have the higher level of cleaners in it to keep the injectors clean. I stick to shell premium 92 octain here in NC.

Oil companies swap gasoline all the time. Let's say I have a refinery in Pennsylvania and you have one in Virginia. It makes little sense for me to truck my PA gasoline to Virginia and for you to truck your gasoline from Virginia to PA when gasoline is a commodity product. So, I let you draw 100,000 gallons of gasoline from my storage tank in PA for your PA gas stations, and you let me draw 100,000 gallons of gasoline from your Virginia holding tanks for my Virginia gas stations. That way, we both save on shipping. Yup, Texaco gasoline may have come from a Shell refinery and vice-versa. At a gasoline terminal you may see trucks from many different companies all loading at the SAME terminal (that for example may be supplied exclusively by Shell).
So although there may be some slight differences in certain brands, in reality on any given day you don't really know what type (brand) of fuel you are purchasing.
Too many people have Brand Loyalty out there and the oil companies love you for it. Some folks can't bear to be without their favorite gasoline.
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency requires that ALL octane grades of ALL brands of gasoline contain engine cleaning detergent additives to protect against the build-up of harmful levels of engine deposits during the expected life of your car.
From previous posts over the years; Techron is the additive of choice and is only available with Chevron and Texaco.
There must be a Tanker driver or a Station owner/manager that could tell us where and when the additives are put into the gas.
Could it be that the additive package is put in by the tanker at delivery to Texaco and Chevron only? The other deliveries by that tanker don't get the Techron package?

Reason: Replace Exxon w/Chevron
Not a distributor, but worked at a Bulk Plant and Refinery
Exxon-Mobil by the way. We supplied anyone that wanted to buy gasoline. They can add their own additive package and rebrand it under their chosen name. No rumor,, the truth. andy NOLa

Here in Florida I am fortunate to have many BP/Amoco stations so I use the Amoco Gold/Ulitmate 93, 99.9% of the time. If I am low and can't find one I used to use Shell as the backup but now they are using 10% Ethanol in stations here in Miami so I will have to find another backup. I hvae bener been fond of Exxon fuels, and I figure Mobil is now same since they own them.
In the end, I do believe the only difference between brands is the additive package.

Everytime you use Citgo you are supporting the Anti-USA Venezuelan government, aka Chavez! It is a Venzuelan owned company. Same as a few other lower cost off-brands like UGas, Westar, and a couple others I can't recal.
