I'm having problems keeping the coolant temps down. It's been 110 or more in Phoenix for a week now and no relief coming soon. I've already got a 160 stat and programed the fan to run 90% by 199. It'll stay under 200 as long as I don't get stuck in traffic, but once it's past the 200 mark I can't get it back under again.
I know the Vararam is blocking some airflow and the shroud is not as effective, but my temps get to 220 too easily.
Has anyone installed an additional fan to help this problem? I'm thinking a 7 or 8 inch pusher fan mounted toward the upper driver's side might work. Any input to help me stay cool?
What coolant mix are using? In your climate, you could run a mostly water mix (e.g. 75% water) with RP Ice as an additive. That would help a bit over the stock mix.

Depending on how much power the car is making, and your location, the stock radiator can become overwhelmed at times. We have seen this with a lot of our open track customers on the track.
We offer a drop in replacement radiator for just such a issue! It comes with a built in oil cooler, and tranny cooler so they will fit auto and Z51 cars alike.
Typically we will see a 20-25 degree drop in coolant temps.

I'm using the factory coolant. If I only drove in this area I'd think about a change, but I travel often. Thanks for the thought.

An '08 A6. It doesn't get much drier than yesterday's 3% which is part of the problem as humid air transfers heat faster. My body cools better in low humidity and high heat because of water being pulled through my skin, but the car is a closed-loop system.
The choices are limited.
Move out of the desert. No way. I love it here. Occasional 110 beats snow hands down.
A water mist to increase humidity. Not practical.
A larger capacity radiator to increase surface area. Possible but costly.
An additional fan to increase air volume. The reason for this thread.
I was thinking about doing a pusher fan too. Its only needed at stop and go traffic for me. My temps reach 235 and go back down to 210 on the highway. 160 stat, water wetter and same fan settings as you.

wow!!!!!!!!! where is that on your website???????????????
I live in Phoenix as well, and drove my 2006 Z06 yesterday. I was hammering the car a little on the drive home from work...and saw coolant temps up to 245 degrees and oil temps up to 230 degrees. Cooled down on the highway, but started to elevate in stop and go traffic. Kinda got me concerned too, looks like it is going to be a long hot summer here....
Damn, I don't know how you guys are seeing such high temps....I'm in Houston where it's over 100 quite frequently. My car is blown with a 3200 stall and I've never, ever seen above 210-215? But, I believe my fan is programmed to run at 100% 24/7. I'd say adjust your fan duty cycle first and see what that does.
I would try looking into a Water wetter mix I guess is what it is called. That might help. My dad has an SSR which has the LS2 but because of the way the front end was designed it received a smaller radiator than a Vette so I'm not sure where he ordered it from but he actually has an Aux. fan.
I live in Tucson where it's just a little cooler and I don't push those kind of temps.
A friend of mine in Tucson installed a Ron Davis radiator and extra cooling fans for additional cooling on the track. I suggest you contact Darryl at Xtreme Motorsports in Tempe 480.517.4969. They're Vette guys and do excellent work. I'll bet they can help you out.
I just finished installing a pusher fan. I will keep ypu guys posted on the results. It raining now so I may need a day or so to get "real" results once it heats up again
with the cartek fan switch i have been running cool, it lets the fan run 100% at 181 and also the electric water pump has helped even more. 99 outside temp 189 in trafic, once moving 170s
