Great idea. Is painting them the way to go or would powdercoating be better? What would I expect to pay at a paint shop or powdercoating shop for 4 wheels, caps & lug nuts? Can I buy comp gray lug nuts from GM? Thanks for any answers.
I took the GM comp gray centers about 60.00 for all four from the dealer and took then to a powder coating shop and said match the wheels to the center caps.
Perfect results and look like Craig has Nice job!
That thing does look amazing!!!!!!! I was gonna say though I double glanced at the pic and saw rear brakes/rotors behind the front wheels so I had to re-read your post again and sure enough its a photoshop.
Great choice Craigster!! I love those wheels in comp grey. Man that car of yours is clean. I've got a job for you next time you're in FL!! Better plan on a week to get all the rubber out of my wheel wells....
Craig dammit, how long did you work on those tailpipes? Thats just way too clean.
Craigster took custody of my corvette when I relocated to Colorado. The transport truck couldnt make my deadline so I let him sleep over at Craig's house. Craig detailed the entire car before it got here and it was glowwing when it was off-loaded from the enclosed trailer. My tailpipes looked unused.
Contact him for the detail of your car's life. He uses polymers, not waxes and the finish resists getting dirt or dust to stick. Well worth the money.
Looks .I happen to have a set on hand I did the same thing bought the comp gray centers at the dealer. Then found a powder coating shop and said match the gray centers.
FYI, try not to quote entire picture sets, some of us are on dail-up or even worse.
Here ya go. Thank you TomLzzz (Tom and Mistie from Tomzwheels, a supporting vendor of corvette forum) for the Gorilla part# 71633NBC black chrome wheel locking system. took some before and after pics, 'lil blurry but you get the idea. best price anywhere!
Wow Mark....hope you dont mind that I copy you, but I HAVE to have those lugs too.
I'll give Tom a call, got my last lugs and locks form him as well, great vendor!
I want to know approximate cost too. I have heard that powdercoating aluminum alloy wheels weakens them during the heating process. This is just hear say, I have nothing to back it up. I am wondering if this is true though. I worked many years in an aluminum plant but can't remember what temperature we annealed aluminum at. I think GM just paints them.
My friend who did them wouldn't take a cent from me (he did have me do all the dirty work and I bought lunch ), but he said a job such as this would be about $100 per wheel.
