No. This is what gets pushed out by the sensor, but what breaks is further up the column. this retainer getting pushed out is a symptom, not the cause.

Of what looks like, now?

It would look just like a hundred other pics of the the general area you are asking about.

It's stuck in a fortunate place, both with the seat placement, as well as steering wheel. I have not had one problem since that happened..

Thanks.

I was going to try to assist you in how to actually fix the SAS being popped out.

FYI, if youre only worried about the sensor hanging thats not the only issue. The cause of the SAS hanging is that a support bearing for the steering column pops out of its carrier and you now only have one bearing holding your steering column up. If you/someone puts a lot of vertical load on the column, I'd be worried on that bearing also being moved out of its mount which will cause your steering wheel to drop.

Got the part through my local dealer, took it to my go to guy for putting in, not the right size for a 2011 which is probably why it doesn’t come up using VIN parts search, apparently not needed for my year after checking TSB’s. Appreciate the help though! Learn something new all the time.

If there's something I've learned about Corvettes is that to diagnose it's either easy or frustrating, no in between.

Hello,

I am new to this forum and accidentally responded to the wrong one when trying to respond to this one (for any mods watching).
I had a nasty instance take place in my C5 and was lucky to have walked away. I was looking to upgrade to a C6, but in the long thread it was looking like some design changes were done in the 09 years, to fix a connector issue known to cause the Active Handling to take charge when it didn't need to.

Does anyone have any knowledge if this issue plagues all C6 vettes, or was it address by the later years? I am having trouble confirming that.
(The issue being that active handling can kick in when not supposed to and cause the vehicle to lock its front or rear wheels, spinning you into traffic or other objects.)

Default Active handling

Hello, Replace the steering wheel position sensor and problem will go away. There is a TSB available relating to the issue. Mostly early run C6’s have the issue along with some other quirks.

I had a 2010 GS at the time that locked the front wheel twice while on the track. I sold it and now have a c7 Z so not sure what the fix was it's someone elses issue dealing with my new ones now

dreamyvette05: Thank you for the prompt response! I appreciate the input.

DEFC6N1: LOL! I like that hahahaha. But also, it does help guide me. There's not a lot of difference between a 2010 and a 2012 I believe.
I was told "2012 and 2013 are refined and don't have that problem" but yet nobody can prove it. One close call with a nasty sensor was enough for me.

I had a 2006 Z51 Coupe. It started doing the front brake grabbing and locking. There was a service bulliten that tried to address the problem. The fix (that solved my issue) was a small orange plastic toothed wedge that the Dealer inserted into the Steering Wheel Position Sensor " SWPS " connector. The comb pressed on the male and female pins and helped insure a proper connection. Once that I knew what was causing the problems, I did some investigations and saw that the telescoping column was causing the SWPS harness to flex every time the steering column reacted/extended. I tyewrapped the harness so it could no longer stress the SWPS Connector. Beewwn the comb being installed and the harness being properly secured, my problem was resolved.

I hope this helps you.

Same here, have a 08 Zo6 and it’s currently at the dealership getting the ESC repaired. Car engine warning lights and service traction control light (AH/TC) began to show up when driving. I would pull over turn off and restart the engine to clear it out. Most recently it came on and car ran poorly, so had it towed to dealership. Was told that there is a problem with the MAF unit which is discontinued by GM and have to replace with aftermarket. Will also check wires connected to the ABS that may have corroded or damaged over time. It’s been 2 weeks and still awaiting parts, hopefully it fixes the issue. Just my experience as an owner. I’ll be filling out and submitting the form.

Hi y’all, sorry to resurrect the thread, but after reading through nearly 50 pages of info, I just want to make sure I have a handle on the state of affairs.

I just picked up an ‘08 z06 about two weeks ago. The previous (single) owner kept several binders of all services and upgrades done to the car. Only has ~28k on the dash. So far its been flawless and super fun, but this issue has been in the back of my mind from reading before I made the purchase.

i thought removing the SWPS (disconnecting under the telescoping hub) would “resolve” it by at least preventing it from coming on at all, but it seems some members are still having issues even after that? Is that comb looking clip really the only solution? Is there even an actual verifiable solution or are we all just hoping the provided ones work? It really sucks to have something concerning safety in the back of your mind when you want to put some power down.

Again sorry for resurrecting the thread, but with apl the info its hard to tell if any of the recommendations ACTUALLY have fixed the issue.

Thanks.

cut off the connector / buy new connector / solder to pins and be done with it?
