I just finished reading this thread. Wow. That video above post 915 really shook me. I don't know if I should just unplug the steering sensor and live with message plug message or wait for the SAH to appear then try to remedy the problem. I don't want to be going on a spirited ride and have to deal with the wheels locking up. I'm amazed that something like this can happen and not be resolved. Granted my 07 vette only has 35K on it, the unknow is really scary.

EVERYBODY PLEASE LISTEN!!!! When your car says "service active handling", the system is NOT functioning and WONT try to kill you. It's when everything seems to be working and there are no warnings on your display- THAT'S WHEN THIS ISSUE OCCURS!!!!!
Thanks for the response. I'm trying to figure out the best way for the car not to try and kill me at any point in time. I'm waiting to hear back from my tuner but my research hasn't resulted in anything, can active handling be disabled with HP Tuners?
What about the LG trackbox that defaults to TC and AH off, will AH still try to reactivate if it senses an error?
Seems to me that at some point as these cars age and parts become unavailable these features will need to be removed/disabled. Lightening took out the EBCM in my 2001 and it could not be repaired. So I bought a new one for $700. If the car was a 97-00 I would have been SOL. I've had a drivers license since 1967 and have driven and owned several HP cars w/o ABS, AH, TC etc without issue.

Yes I understood this so disabling the whole system is probably best or wait until it fails and kills you. Having the message in the DIC is telling you your safe from ill effects of a random brake lockup.
I did a good bit of research and decided that a C6 Grand Sport(hopefully a 2011-2013) would be my first Corvette. After seeing the recent crash thread about active handling and then looking through this thread, I'm beginning to rethink getting a vette all too.... pretty discouraging.

Eh, you'll be fine. Most of the later models dont have these issues. You are probably reading issues from less than 1% of the 11-13 GS's that are out there. Every car has its issues. Hell, I have a new Silverado that is under recall because the brakes turn off when you start it through the remote app. You should read the amount of people that have had to have garage doors replaced.
You will also have to note that there was some one that was able to fix their issue by replacing one of the wheel speed sensors. Unfortunately they dont come seperate and you have to purchase the bearing assembly

I appreciate the response and that does make me feel better. There certainly are a ton of happy owners..... some of them for quite a long time. I haven't given up on the C-6. The only other car I'm interested in is a '21 Supra 3.0(which would be considerably more money). I'm about a year our from my purchase so I have time to continue learning about these cars.
I have read through a few threads but I have seen conflicting information.
Is pulling the steering wheel position sensor the best way to disable Active Handling on a 2006 C6? If so, will it throw a CEL on the dash or just the "Service Active Handling" message you can clear?
Will it affect anything else on the car? I've seen conflicting threads on whether this affects ABS.
Thanks for the help.

If you are a year out you should be looking at a C7 (unless its the body style that you like about the C6).

I'm curious to your reason for saying so. But bodystyle and price are the driving factors. I'm only considering a GS(as far as a C6 goes) and would prefer a '12 or '13.
Hi everyone.
I just purchased an 07 c6 base with z51 package
first vette,I live it but this really concerns me
It's used with 54,000 miles how does this effect me if there's a class action lawsuit against GM?
really love the care it's my daily driver.
phil.

It will NOT throw a CEL. It will only have SAH message on the DIC as well as the icon that pops up when you turn off TC. I am not 100% sure if TC is still active after this occurs, I believe it is not going to operate since its tied into the active handling system. Your ABS will still work as well.
I haven't the time to read through all 32 pages here - If I turn my traction control to "Competitive Driving Mode" will this deactivate AH? I ask because I have gotten in the habit of changing my TC to Competitive Driving Mode every time I get in the car, it would be an easy solution to the problem for me.

When my accident occurred it was with "competitive driving mode" on.

Sorry -- Dont come on here too much any more. Outside of current car prices today, my reasoning was that you could get a C7 for a decent price with the C8 hitting the market. Obviously, this is a little different today than when I originally made the comment. If you are going to wait until the market cools down, then you can probably still get a C7 with more options at a good price. Especially compared to a '21 or newer Supra.

This is not true. My SAH light is on and it tried to run me into the right hand ditch today. This is a C6, 2010. The dealer tells me the steering wheel position sensor needs replaced, I'm skeptical this will actually fix it long term, based on what I've seen on here.
