Very frustrated
* I will do a complete review of the Kumho XS tires with pretty pictures shortly
Are these tires brand new? Very new tires still have an oily residue that they use for releasing from the tire molds, I believe. Takes a while for it to wear off. Not a lot, 20-25 miles?
Despite being better than the runflats, wheelspin is still a problem. I used to think cars with enough power to spin the tires from a roll where super cool... now I hate it. gettnig into the gas and getting nothing but noise sucks.
I've driven five Corvettes with various tires and I'm sorry to say that the car has a traction problem that tires alone won't solve.

Get the 'new' off the tires and they should improve. You'll still suffer the effects of 40 degrees but it shouldn't be as bad.

*No street tire will hook up in cold weather.
Just for reference, I took these tires to the track last weekend and launched at 3500 rpms and had ZERO wheel spin through all gears. (outside temp was 78) Show me another non-R street tire that can do that.

From a roll in first gear, be it 10, 20, 30, or even 40 mph, a stab too deep into the throttle will often result in mostly wheelspin and little forward motion. The situation is somewhat surface dependent, and some streets are better than others. However, the general rule is that getting deep into the gas in first gear spins the tires.
I have driven a stock C5 Z06 and a stock C6 Z06 and both had the same traction problems. Mine is a manual Z51. I suppose a car with a different suspension option may have different traction characteristics, and certainly a car with an auto trans would have different traction characteristics, but for those with a Z51 manual like me, it's hard for me to understand how anyone is getting traction from a launch, or from a roll in first gear.
What I am describing happens in warm weather with warmed up tires with 1000 miles on them. While one could debate how good the XS's are, clearly they are a fairly soft, high grip tire, so I don't see why some other tire would be a night and day difference...
I don't know why experiences vary so much on this issue, but I can relate to the OP because this is something that has taken alot of the fun out of driving the car for me.
1.9 I launched at 3500 with a smooth engagement. Figured I would spin and all it did is bogg the traciton was soo good. I wanted to try a launch at 4k and gas it harder but the track closed....Im certain I can cut a 1.7 with these, maybe better.
When the track opens up in January, I will take a Video of a run to show the launch.
(BTW a stock GT500 was spinning 1st and 2nd on the same lane)
As for the tires on the street. I had them when I was stock and had NO problem hooking up in 1st, 2nd on a warm day. I guess I could spin them if I popped the clutch at 4-6k rpm's
Heres the kicker: Anything below 65degress out and they will spin(like every other street tire)
So far, temps above 70 and sunny out and I can hook up most of 1st and all of 2nd, if they are real warm.
Again guys, not a miracle tire, but best traction Ive seen in a non-R street tire.
Smooth black pavement is where I am getting traction. If your on the knobby, course, highway asphalt, you wont hook-up.
