Default MSD Coils

Many of you have voiced an opinion about MDS LS coils. The issue I beleive is that the car ran worse after the install than before.

Our area at the Pomona Winter Nationlas was across from MSD so I thought I would ask if they were aware of any issues with LS coils. To my suprise, they said yes! I was told that since the MSD coils require more power than the stock coils and that the factory wire was not getting enough power to the coils, in some, but not all, you may have an issue with the car actually running poorly becasuse of the coil swap.

MSD is intorducing a wiring harness with a relay to the battery to address the issue and it will be out at the end of the month. They also informed me that they are introducing billet coil brackets to go with the coils.

I have no realtionship with MSD, so I have no vested intrest in the selling more coils, I just want them becasue they look. Hope that helps those that have isues with the coils.

That is interesting to know. However the failures I have seen are not voltage related but rather individual coil pack failures. I doubt a low voltage or low current delivery to the coil would cause an early failure.

that was cool they told you that. I love the look of their coil packs but everything I have read, the factory ones are more than enough even on a modifed engine.

I know that sometimes products get a bad rap when there is an answer. I had used their products on several car with no issues and wa suprised by all the negitive comments, so I figuired I would ask the question.

We have several PHDs in electrical at the office, so I plan to talk to them when i get back. I really think their coils look good, but I don't need more aggrevation in my life and sounds to me, that they have identified the issue and have taken steps to correct it.

You can take your factory coils out, clean them, mask them, and paint them red. It will look almost identical to the MSD coils and save you $700.
Plus it is 100% guaranteed to work.

You can do that, or get a set of GM truck coils if you feel you "really" need more ignition power and also paint them red. The truck coils are cool to because they are a different shape and have a cool little heat sink on them as well. Save the cash, of if you really want to spend the money, keep the GM coils paint them red and send the money you saved to St Judes Childrens Hospital Then you will even feel great about spending the money knowing you helped some kids.

Forgot to mention that one of my customers has them on his car, he to thinks they look cool. But he has had a failures with them so he carrys a spare coil with him wherever he goes.
