I believe this is a fairly popular thread and I would like to ask if the readers would post the timing changes they have made to thier stock high octane timing tables to max out torque and drivability. More specifically e85 has a high enough octane that timing can be advanced beyond peak torque and still not knock. At what rpm did you start adding timing and how much? Did you multiply the base table above a certain rpm using HP tuners? How about the part throttle timing ? Did you change stoic afr on the fuel table and leave the pe table for gas or did you switch to the pe table for etoh? Thanks for posting.
I believe I'm at 22 degrees however, I can confirm by the weekend. Need to get the old laptop out.
NO. As long as misinformation is posted regarding ethanol, it will be refuted.
If you want to post info about E85 and the negatives, do it in your own thread. The OP asked you nicely to not post in his thread about his performance gains. Show some respect.

If the conversation is only about performance, not ethanol price, production or whining for more availability, I promise not to interfere.
My original post was to refute misinformation posted by KneeDragr. As long as misstatements, myths, are posted regarding ethanol, they will be refuted.

You're right, I'm no authority on this board, and yes, anyone can make comments, but that doesn't change the fact that it's rude to post on someone's thread about something unrelated to the topic at hand especially when they asked nicely not to.
My post should have been directed at everyone debating the gov't subsidies etc of the fuel.
This post was about the performance gains and discussion of the performance effects of making the switch to E85 in an otherwise stock LS3.

The subject is performance experience with E85, and not any other subject. Its not about government or the price and availabilty of corn in the future so lets stay on the topic.
Great thread and a lot of good info. Thanks for posting.
Not a problem! It has a lot of good info (for the most part). I think we will have some more heated discussions once I have my dyno chart with headers and E85 only. Look forward to some unexpected results!
My guess is around 440-450 whp. Does that sound reasonable? I'm already at 420 with E85 tune only (conservative tune).
Throttle body will be next in line but, i'm worried larger injectors will be required at that point. The excitement!
Over the weekend I added slightly over 15 gallons of e85 that should be about a true e80 to the remaining 93octane e10 in my 18+ gallon tank to obtain about e70 mathematically. This would have an octane of at least 105. I changed stoic to 10.7 and copyied the etoh pe table to the gas table and then multiplied the entire high octane table by 1.1. Per my scanner HP Tuner my max duty cycle went to 106 but narrow band o2 stayed between 905 and 952. torque per sotp was up and my 20 mph to 108 mph dropped by .282 seconds. My previous best posted time is 12.26 at 115 so this should put me at 12.0 to 11.95. Fuel trims are normal and mileage is down by 25-30 %. Based on my experience running true e 85 will be beyond my fuel injector's capacity max commanded duration was 23.3. On the other hand I see no need to go beyond e65 to e 70 to get max performance out of the stock ls3 and can minimize the mileage sacrifice incurred with full e85. Others please post the details of your e85 tunes and results. Thanks for posting
For those in the LA area watching this thread like myself, there is a strange absence of E85 anywhere in the heart of the county, but around the outskirts of LA some stations are carrying.
*There are a couple just to the NE of Pomona, about 6-7 miles
*One up in Arcadia
*One just to the west of Beverly Hills across the 405
*Two on South Sepulveda near Harbor City and N. San Pedro
*One right off the 5 in N. Santa Ana
*One right off the 5 in Norwalk
If any of you live in these areas, you're in luck...Unfortunately I couldn't find any in the SFV, however.
I have the headers and Xpipe on hand. I will be installing everything next week. My tuner has informed me that I am clear to install the headers without upgrading the injectors. That being said, Once they are installed I will data log the car immediately and get a final tune configured throughout the rest of the week. If all goes to plan i will be on a dyno that weekend.
All numbers will be posted and I will have sound clips of the Before and After with the headers synced with my NPP exhaust.
Why push it? Just curious. You talk about money to burn, essentially- with the sentiments about the fuel mileage being irrelevant, corvette something, etc.
One of the quickest paths to scrap metal is to short your engine of fuel. I understand bucking the norm and seeing things first hand, but a set of injectors is not only cheap insurance, it's a precursor to any further upgrades beyond the exhaust.
To have and not need is better than to need and not have. And we're not talking about a multi-thousand dollar preemptive upgrade like a built diff. Thoughts?
20-25rwhp would be on the very high side of what a stock car can pick up with a tune. That's probably 50-75% higher than what is normally picked up from tuning.
I was able to successfully install the Kook headers & X pipe in my garage. It took about 4.5 hours in total. I have a few videos below of me doing the install ( I am not a video expert so please reserve your judgment)
Wrap up - Video 2 (The dipstick is not for the transmission )
I have a start up video if you guys want to see it.
OK - so for the E85 tuning side of things. Currently the car drives perfectly without a new re-flash. I am throwing a check engine light however, it's because I am catless (p0420, p0430). I have done some WOT runs and it drives perfectly and feels a bit faster.
Logging will begin once weather starts to get a better. It's been cold and snowing for the past few days here in Indy. It should be back up in the fifty's by next week with a chance of SUNSHINE.
I am scheduling some dyno time for January 14th, so be looking forward to some numbers.
