And in response to the last post. The amount of land it would take to create enough corn to fuel America's cars is larger than the surface area of the Unites States. So start tilling your yard and driving about a quarter as much as you do now and maybe we won't need oil anymore.
Yours is a fools argument because Corn is probably the worst crop to use to make Ethanol land use wise.
Brazil uses sugar cane, but an even better solution is to use switch grass, which can be grown on marginal land ( land that cannot be used for farming ). Its ethanol yields are double any other crop and its dirt cheap to grow ( its bascially a weed ).
Could it power our current gasoline use? Heck no, but along with shale, electric and natural gas vehicles it could help us reduce or eliminate our use of foreign oil which would be a massive boost for our economy.
Filled my stock 2011 GS with E85 and got a check engine light within a couple of miles--any input? Didn't have the codes read yet but I supect lean condition or something to do with the cats. Ran my '92 C4 on E85 a lot--worked well until it got cool and it was hard to start.
oh no! You need to get a tune for your car to except E85. You can cause some serious damage without doing this step. Please siphon your gas tank or try to put some regular gas end to dilute the blend.
In a STOCK LS3 you do not need any new hardware - Only a software (tune) change is needed. Our cars can except E85 without a issue.
I have documented all of this in my first post on this thread. Please review and then make any other posts if needed
Bobby, you seem to have good experience with E-85. Do you know of any basic issues / problems or extra maintenance when tuning a stock (2008) LS3 C6 for E-85? Usually if it seems too good to be true it is, and a 30+hp /tq gain seems very substantial to not have some kind of consequences or cons!?????
If you read the start of the thread you will see that my car is STOCK on E85. All you need is a tune to complete the fuel acceptance. No need for Injectors or Fuel pump

Yup I know that! Im just wondering when you add MODS and get re-tuned for them if your injectors will be able to handle that much more considering they are already at 90%. ?

Yeah he should be fine as long as he doesnt get heads and cam. The stock injectors can handle a good bit. I'm surprised he's at 90%. I don't suggest going over 90% but yes it can be done. LS7 injectors are even better. I got over 500 RWHP through an auto. Manual guys have seen high 500 RWHP #s safely on stock LS7 injectors.

500rwhp on E85 with LS7 injectors??? Or 500rwhp on regular gas with LS7 injectors?

Doesn't the LS3 have the same injectors as the LS7? I think they are the same. I heard the LS7wasshort on injector vs the power it can make with more injector, but the LS3 can run its stock injectors and still be safe. ???

Yes - The injectors are the same. I have read about multiple BASE Z06's getting 500whp with E85 only without any fuel upgrades. It might not be completely "safe" but it can be done. I'm getting headers with stock injectors pumping E85 no mater what. I will be sure to document my results and see if I need to bump up the injector size.
Heck even E15 dropped my trucks fuel mileage from 17-19 to 14-15 mpg
Somewhere earlier in the one of his posts LS3_E85 said he gets 23-24mpg on the Highway now. It was 29 or 30 mpg originally on premium gas if I remember right. Now the fact that you care about gas mileage with a corvette..........
Hopefully stock injectors are up to the task, but already being at 90% duty cycle makes it not look too good for future mods past being stock.
Floyd - Thanks for watching my back I know you are looking out for me! Once I talk to my tuner I will give you his input. I won't do anything until i tell you what he suggests.
I'm shocked. I'm at 425/425 with bolt ons and can't help but wonder where I'd be with E85 now. Do most gas stations carry it? I've never really noticed.
Are there downsides to E85?
If I got the same gains, Id be at 470/477! Who needs a cam
13.5 cr, big cam and 80 lb injectors will get you huge gains in power on E85.
I have read 6 pages so far and can not find the answer im looking for. I have full bolt-ons and cam only setup, my last mod will be e-85 conversion. What size injectors will I need and where is a good place to buy them? help!!

I recommend buying from Hinson Supercars. Best prices I found by a good margin.
I responded to the other thread with more info about injector sizing. It isn't just a flat "you need this injector" it has to do with how much power you're making.
Any update to this? We're starting to see the beginning of E85 in my area and I'm debating making the switch myself.
I have logged 10,000 miles and have had ZERO issues
I am actually hoping to install a exhaust system by next year so, that's when I planned on updating the thread. In respect to reliability... Track tested... Mile tested... it's been 100% flawless.. To all the naysayers, my gas tank has not melted!
As long as you have a good tuner that understands E85 it's a must. This has been my funnest mod I have ever installed, and actually the easiest! So many cool conversations arise with strangers at the pump .
