If your block is salvageable then I like the idea of either a fully forged stock cubic inch (376-378) set up or better yet a forged 416.
If your block is toast then maybe an RHS block built up in accordance for whatever you're looking for (supercharger/turbo, nitrous or naturally aspirated etc.).

Well since you are located in TX, I'd go with someone local.

Not sure how far they are from you, but Texas Speed now does in-house engine builds and thier pricing is pretty reasonable from what I've seen.

ERL performance will sell you an all aluminum LS3 sleeved and stroked to 454 cu in for 5k, another only 1200.00 without a core. capable of 550 hp with LS3 heads. check them out online and see what they offer. they could possibly repair your old block?

If you research LS shops in TX, you'll have more choices than you can handle. There are some big name shops down there pushing out some very impressive builds. Not to say the rest of the country doesn't have excellent shops, but picking a quality shop that's in your area is worth more than you can imagine when the little things pop up.

If you are near to Houston you can try The School of Automotive Machinists. They are an engine building school that has a very good LS program. They have been running an LS all motor car for many many years and are one of the fastest in the country in their 99 Camaro SS.

I've heard a lot of people speak very highly of England Green in Houston. I met the owner once and he seem like a straight shooter.

LME they build all the engines for LMR cant beat them they hold a **** ton of LS records. all the employees are graduates of S.A.M. (school of automotive machinists)

no you cant just have S.A.M. build your engine. as a graduate i know you can have one of the students build your engine as a project. but then your trusting it to a student who is just now learning how to do this type of work. save yourself $$ buy have a shop build your block.

HKE, Erik actually taught at S.A.M for a # of years and is still close to the school.
No one tops him for LS engines.

EMail works better than calling HKE for some reason. G&G out of Tomball is also a good shop. I've used both in the last year with good results.

So far G&G is winning the race. I would like to give HKE a shot at my money but they have not responded to my emails or phone calls.

Sorry about your engine. I've felt that pain several times and it's not pleasant. Consider it a bump in the road of life where many other things are potholes or worse.

Asking for the "best" just gets lots of opinions, as there's no way to score them. Pick a local established guy, create a working relationship, and hope it works for your needs.

Best of luck to ya.
