Nav radio swap with tech 2
I am swapping my nav radio with a matching # nav out of a 2008 Vette. What is the procedure using a tech 2 to unlock the replacement nav radio.
Many Thanks, C5-JIM

I took mine to the dealer. I believe they had to erase the existing VIN on the radio and rewrite it with my VIN. I'm not sure what exactly they had to do though

Exactly it. Also if the dealer doesn't know you or you look unsavory they'll ask you for a bill of sale for the radio you're having unlocked.

Actually you dont need the new vin or old vin at all.
The Tech II will just clear(theft learn) the vin within the Nav unit. It will then marry to the first BCM its keyed up to.
You can actually clear the theft lock in ACC mode, remove it and install it in any other vehicle you want.

Update to an old thread, I replaced my Nav unit and was able to clear the theft code after the radio was installed with the ignition in accessories. When I turned acc off and removed my Tech2, I started the car and all went well. I noticed the Nav unit was set to all default settings. The steps I took were slightly different than what was listed, probably because of a different Tech2 software release, but my procedure went like this:
After the car select setting were made:
F1: Body > Navigation Radio > Navigation Radio > f4: Module Setup > Vin Relearn > Clear Radio Theft
At Vin Relearn screen, the scan tool will display "do you want to clear the radio theft information?" (yes you do)
To begin clearing, press the soft touch key on the top right of the scan tool, The Tech2 will display "Clearing radio theft in progress".
When completed, press exit on the Tech2 and turn off ACC.
Remove the Tech2 from the system
The Nav Unit will now marry to your car when you start it up. You will find the Nav Unit will be reset to it's default settings.

And again, in tech 2 win, if nav radio, need to go into the nav sub menu, and if stock CD radio, need to go into the radio sub menu.
Hence where the dealers screw up remarring a nav to the car, is they go into radio sub menu, and not into Nav sub menu instead.
