This has always been a concern of mine as well. I tend to think about just how much juice those injectors, fuel pumps, multiple computers and control modules actually need to run properly at all times and under all weather conditions.
My period of using a small battery wasn't bad all of the time but I really hated hearing that starter struggle a little bit more with each restart after it had been parked for a while. I find that I have so much more freedom to leave doors open and leave the car parked for weeks on end with no battery tender on it with the full size battery in there.
And knowing that I might be causing less stress on my alternator is a plus as well.

I would NOT use that small battery with the nitrous, aside from that bottle heater killing it dead inside of 10 minutes (with the engine off), if that thing decides to crap out or even just go real weak during a wide open nitrous pass and causes any sort of fuel pump or injector driver issues, ut oh.
The alternator might take up most of the slack of course as long as the car is still running, but still.

...............but the "shallow" cycle battery is solely designed to provide large burst for short period of time (starter motor, lights and ignition). And the charging system (alt & voltage reg) is what "carries" the car and recharges the batt after ignition and all of the other stuff that has been mentioned (injectors, pumps, stereo, etc).

So all of this talk about my batt not "carrying" my cars capacity...makes me wonder about the condition of the charging system in these cars ??

But I do read that on the late model ECU cars the batt needs to be in the "system" for some sort of ECU voltage filter.

Thanks.............

Also for some of debate going on between runflats vs. Non-RF's are those run-flat numbers with the hard rubber-plastic core that gets wrapped around the wheel and then bolted together or just the actual tires themselves. I find it hard to believe that a hard dense thing like that only adds less then 3lbs each wheel over a RF without it.

The weight I posted is the weight of the tires as sold. Not really sure why a mid-production weight would even be an option if I'm understanding your question.

Nevermind I was thinking of the older run flat tire technologies where there was like a hard "second" tire that acts as an auxiliary support.

Apparently I didn't bother looking into run flats more because most of them are now side-wall supported.

I had those PAX tire within a tire systems on my Honda Minivan...they were so bad Honda lost a class action lawsuit because of them. I got a few bucks off a replacement set of tires (which wore out in 12-14k miles) which was better than nothing..but I'm sure the class action lawyers are sitting pretty because of it.

With my c6 I haven't run run-flats for 2.5 years now. I carry a plug kit from Wal-Mart (which I've used) and a Conti-Kit compressor + sensor safe goop from Tirerack (which I haven't used).

Tires really aren't an issue here because I will be using drag radials and on the street I use non rf re-11's because they are awesome.

First off I run a "small" battery 24/7. Granted my car is not a daily driver...but have never...ever, ever had a problem, which maybe actually worse(car sitting in the garage for extended periods). Batt. has been in the car for 2+ years (11.7scr 346")...the batt. weighs about 6lbs and is in the original location.

And about static weight or dynamic.....I look at it like this...in this hobby we all love, it never hurts to reduce weight....be it static or dynamic (rotating). Here is a calc for you math wizards....http://hpwizard.com/rotational-inertia.html

Thanks.....fyi, I'm at 2950ish w/18's and 19's on a C5Z...with zero loss in creature comforts.
That's pretty impressive. What did you do for weight reduction?

The Ballistic EVO 16-cell battery has 500 CCA and 28 Ah (lead-acid equivalent). Weight is 3.6 pounds, cost is $236 and it's made in the USA. The only negative reviews I found were about the site's configurator, not the batteries themselves. The battery reviews I found were all positive, actually glowing. The battery only loses 10% of it's charge per YEAR in a static state.

They have an optional charger that charges and "balances" the individual cells. They claim that periodic balancing can extend the battery life by up to two times the normal lifetime.

The Shorai models I'd look at are LFX36L3-BS12 and LFX27L3-BS12. LSX36L3-BS12 is 540 CCA and 36 Ah. Weight is 5 pounds and cost is $350. LSX27L3-BS12 is 405 CCA and 27 Ah. Weight is 4.2 pounds and cost is $276.

All of the batteries above have the correct terminal orientation.

are there any estimates as to the "normal lifetime" which then could be extended up to two times by this charger? if that's so, under optimum circumstances, that would drop the initial cost of the batt. by 50%, or so, not including the cost of the charger.

Not sure. They have a 3 year warranty and state •Service life of over twice a lead acid in similar conditions

I'll post up if I purchase one.

Depends on who you trust. Tell me what you want to spend, your intended usage and how often you drive the car. I'll give you my opinion.

You said that you have had one for quite some time with no trouble and I guess around $100.

Post #60 has a link to my original thread on the Deka I still have. Around 17 pounds compared to 4 pounds (or less) from some of the new contenders.

Available at your local autozone. You'll need the top post adapters too.

That's good info, thanks. I'd guess under ideal conditions and/or maintenance the 3 years is always possible; then also, the up to 6 years. Many, but not all people, get 6-7 years out of their original batteries, also w. proper maintenance and luck!

I'd say if the new batt. can do/get the lifespan it claims or quite close to it, (and then almost double it with a special charger) it becomes financially close to a regular battery. But it also comes with the added benefit of the weight reduction.

Due primarily to the high summer heat in the Southwest, batteries die much quicker. 2-3 years is the norm. Since many carry a 5-7 year warranty, it's common practice to pay the pro-rated difference. That means the cost difference is not double related to the lifespan, but closer to 1.5 assuming trading cars on a 6-9 year cycle.

Here's a decent deal for anyone wanting to pick up the above-mentioned battery.

Any issues with removing the passenger seat with throwing lights and the light not going back off when you reinstall the seat?
