I have a cracked tinted top, I don't think there is any way to repair but my body guy suggested. Painting it black? Has anyone tried this? Wife wanted me to put a tint in it anyway.
Thought?
With proper prep (whatever that is), people have posted about painting the transparent tops and reported no problems.
Of course, your crack(s) will continue to grow and eventually you'll need to replace the top or do some kind of a patch. If you do paint it, you might consider "stop-drilling" the crack first- carefully drill a small hole maybe 3/32" at the end of the crack, that will keep it from growing if you are lucky. You might even fill the hole with some flexible filler before painting.
Good point on drilling a hole! I forgot about that technique. I figure I have nothing to lose to salvage this one.
Thanks for your advise!
And if that fails, you can always re-use the latches and hardware on a different top. I've seen them for sale used without hardware fairly often, so don't throw it away yet

I had a cracked transparent top on mine also. Is your vehicle still under warranty? Mine was and GM replaced it. According to my contact at my dealership, GM is aware of a cracking problem. Hope this helps.
There is a bulletin on the cracking problem, take it to your dealer and discuss options even if out of warranty. Do a search on the forum to get SB number to provide dealer. You didn't provide the year and if your the original owner, I think total mileage is also important.
