2005 manual column lock - Tip and Fix
Had no luck so tried resetting the battery and still no luck. Still was getting "Service Column Lock". From reading here it sounds like the lock uses a voltage check and since these cars seem to always have something wrong if the battery is dead, I went and checked and sure enough the battery had a bad cell. Bought a new one, charged it up, started it with original column lock and good. Then set up bypass and good as well.
Hope this helps! Chalk this one up to another bad battery. Glad I installed the bypass though.
Lot of good discussion here with Dano: https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...lumn-lock.html
Now its really a mixed blessing that GM no longer has the SCLM to replace bad ones, since they now finally came out with a BCM firmware re-flash that take both the steering lock, and the SCLM out of play once for for all (not longer need to by a eliminator).
If you want the dealer to do this, it around $450 since they pull the steering wheel/column locking ring so the motor can never lock up the wheel once it and the module is flashed out, but if you know someone with a tech II (or just want to by a VX GM Nano so you do have a tech II device your self for around $100) and already have steering lock out of play, then TDS subscrption is only $40 for a 2 years to reflash the BCM yourself.

Yes on TDS 2 years for $40 as well and same thing with a quick phone call, so you load all the needed driver when loading the TDS on line software on your machine the first time as well.

Your going to be using TDS software with the nano, to reflash the BCM.
So with nano in hand, install VX Manager on the laptop. Now connect the nano to the lap top, update the nano firmware by clicking on that icon in VX manager, then click on license icon to up date it too. Leave the Nano connected to the machine, VX manger still open, then go to the white disc tech2 win folder that came with the Nano, and click on Autoinstall, exe to install Tech2win to your machine. Once its installed, go back to VX manager, click on the Diag tab on top, then go to apps and install T2W/GDS2, Pass through, SGM rds apps.
Now go to A/c Delco to buy a 24 month subscription for SPS for $42.

Once you have the subscription and logged on, will select SPS.
The first time around for SPS, it will load the needed TDS software on to your machine, then quit you out of SPS.
You will go back into TDS again once you have Java set up, and this time with the TDS software up and running, going to get a pop up box that will ask you if you want to load drivers, including the Wrapper driver. Install all three drivers from that pop up list.
For the Nano device with SPS, use the Diag driver from the list.
Now will connect the nano that is already connected to the laptop when you started SPS, to the car, and will click to scan the car to pull the vin.
Double check to make sure that the vin is correct, since clicking next is going to lock your account to that Vin number for the subscription.
A few clicks later in TDS SPS, will come to the module list, select BCM, then going to see only 1 firmware file in the list to select, which is the one you want to flash it. SPS will walk your through the rest of the BCM flashing.
